Prescott Plan Commission to hold public hearing on proposed zoning ordinance amendments

Posted

The City of Prescott will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, to gather public input on proposed amendments to Chapter 635, Zoning, of the City of Prescott Code of Ordinances.

The public hearing was scheduled following approval by the Prescott City Council at their July 13 meeting of a resolution authorizing the Plan Commission to hold a public hearing regarding the proposed zoning amendments. The hearing will take place in the City of Prescott Council Chambers, located at 800 Borner St.

The proposed amendments are intended to update several zoning district regulations, including changes to conditional uses and accessory structure requirements throughout the city’s zoning code. The amendments were prepared in accordance with Wis. Stat. § 62.23(7)(d) and Chapter 985 of the Wisconsin Statutes, which govern municipal zoning procedures and public notice requirements.

The proposed changes include removing Large-Scale Solar Farms as a conditional use in the C-1 Central Commercial, I-1 Light Industrial, I-3 Mixed Industrial, and portions of other zoning districts. Additional changes in the I-2 Heavy Industrial District would remove Airports, Airstrips, and Landing Fields; Railroads and Railroad Facilities; and Large-Scale Solar Farms as conditional uses.

Residential zoning districts would also see updates to accessory structure provisions to ensure consistency with Article X, § 635-87 of the zoning ordinance. These changes would apply to the R-1 Mixed Residential, R-2 Multifamily Residential, R-3 Medium-Density Residential, R-4 High-Density Residential, and R-5 Single-Family Residential districts.

The proposed amendments would also add Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) as a conditional use in the R-5 Single-Family Residential District, allowing the city to consider requests for ADUs through the conditional use approval process.

The full text of the proposed amendments, along with a zoning map, is available for review at Prescott City Hall and on the City of Prescott website.

Residents and interested parties are encouraged to attend the public hearing and provide comments or submit comments to the City of Prescott prior to the hearing.
