Prescott’s Lenz reaches 1,000 points at Michigan Tech

Isabella Lenz, a Prescott High School Class of 2021 graduate, etched her name into college basketball history, becoming the 31st Michigan Tech women’s basketball player to reach 1,000 career points.

The senior knew she was approaching the milestone, but when she hit it in a 19-point performance against St. Cloud State on Nov. 24, she did not find out until after the game.

“Honestly, I didn’t know I had scored it,” Lenz said. “I knew I was a few points away… I still don’t even know what bucket I scored it on.”

Lenz may not remember the moment she broke 1,000 points, but she will remember what it took to get there.

“It just feels very nice to see that a lot of my hard work has paid off,” Lenz said. “Obviously, a lot of that is due to what my teammates have helped me with.”

Representing Prescott is something that means a lot to Lenz, showing what people from a small town can do. Reaching 1,000 points is nothing new for Lenz, who posted 1,811 points in her high school career. According to the Wisconsin Sports Network, Lenz is tied for 75th all-time in Wisconsin high school girls basketball career points and is Prescott’s all-time leader.

Lenz was also a back-to-back Middle Border Conference player of the year.

“Representing a small town is a very accomplishing feeling,” Lenz said. “A lot of times, especially a town like Prescott, I feel like they are underlooked. There’s a lot of hardworking people in towns like that.”

Lenz led Michigan Tech in scoring as both a sophomore and junior and has averaged 10.6 points per game over her four-year career.

At 2-4, Lenz said the young Michigan Tech squad has faced a lot of adversity and has not quite gotten off to the start they had hoped. They made the national tournament in Lenz’s sophomore year and she hopes to return this year as well as making a run at the conference championship in the regular season and conference tournament.

“We’re definitely going to be an underestimated team,” Lenz said. “Our record does not show all of the work that we put in in the offseason.”

When the senior season concludes, Lenz is not quite sure what the future holds, but is interested in graphic design and/or working for a sports team.

Her advice to other Pierce County students out there trying to get to the level she has already achieved is to pour every ounce of effort they have into everything they do.

“Don’t go through life regretting anything,” Lenz said. “You can never go back, so I would just say give everything 100% and don’t leave room for regret.”
