PRESCOTT – Prescott High School Athletic Director/Assistant Principal Matt Smith started his last Prescott School Board meeting Wednesday, July 28 by introducing new Athletic & Activities Director Andrew Caudill to the board.

Caudill, who is originally from Wisconsin, worked the past seven years at the University of Nevada. He also served on the Reno School Board for 2.5 years.

He immediately jumped into business, which included presenting revisions to the Prescott School District Activities Code of Conduct. The changes included adding language to line up with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) regarding incomplete grades/classes.

To get ahead of incompletes, mid-term grade checks will be conducted for all students, regardless of their enrollment in sports or not. The dates will be pre-determined, so there will be no surprises. That way, hopefully, incomplete grades can be headed off before the end of the trimester, before going into the next sports season.

The revisions also cleaned up the appeal process, in order to make it more stream-lined and faster, out of respect for the athlete and family. Appeals will go before a committee of three faculty members, who will not be connected to the students in any way. No school board member will be on the committee; however, a reporting process will be in place to the board knows the outcome of appeals. The process should take about seven-to-10 days, instead of the current 25 days.

Smith said that coaches had a lot of input into the new process.
