Reese Ptacek, a Prescott Class of 2023 graduate, went into college with some high expectations, but even the loftiest of expectations have been exceeded as she won Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year and made the All-Big 12 First Team with the Kansas Jayhawks.
The six-foot-three middle blocker tallied 1.27 blocks per set this regular season, and once she had a window to see significant playing time she wasted no time. On the year, Ptacek wound up with 108 kills on a .291 percentage to go with the 80 total blocks.
Kansas made the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season this year, finishing 24-4. The Jayhawks swept Colgate in the first round but lost in five sets to Florida to end their season. Ptacek picked up five total blocks against Colgate and four against Florida.
Ptacek was also a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 Rookie Team and was the lone freshman on the conference’s first team. She won conference rookie of the week back in October and returned to claim the annual prize.
With one year down, Ptacek now has time to reflect to find ways to continue to improve in her collegiate career.
