What can your teammates who want to get to State in the future take from your journey?
I want them to learn to never give up, especially when it gets hard. I was 16-18 as a freshman, I was not very good. I worked hard in the off season and came back with a 35-5 record as a sophomore: now this year going to State with a 39-5 record as a junior. So don't quit when it gets hard, get better.

At the beginning of the year, I started off pretty slow, losing a few matches I shouldn’t have. I sat down and had a conversation with my coach, Ryan Turner, about what I needed to change and how to improve; things turned around quickly. After I changed what I needed to, and continued to work hard in the wrestling room, I began to win some important matches.

There’s been a couple matches that have been close. I was up 16-2, only one point away, and all I needed was an escape, and that was in the semifinals to make it to the finals. I got pinned, and that was a really low, and then a high was beating people that I lost to last year.

It means a lot to represent mostly my wrestling team and club to show coming from Prescott, which has not been very successful for the last handful of years, and also representing my wrestling club Victory School of Wrestling. I would not want to be doing anything else than go and wrestle in Madison and show my skills and my work ethic. It means a lot to me that I get to represent all the people that have helped me this year whether it be my coaches, my parents, my teachers, my teammates or God. They all have made this journey possible.

It has been a crazy season this year, especially since changing into high school. There have definitely been some ups and downs, but I took them as learning opportunities and went back into the practice room more hungry. But the things that have gotten me out of my slopes have been my teammates, and coaches and all the people who built me today. Without them I would have no idea where I would be today.

I would say for my teammates who want to do something like this in the future, mindset is probably the most important thing from going to multiple hard practices in the days and staying consistent and wanting to come back and do the same thing all year. But, I would say the second biggest thing is to surround yourself with the right people, so you have a great mindset, have a great work ethic and strive to be your best, because who you surround yourself with is who you are. Lastly, I am very grateful for this opportunity to be able to show off my skills and [for] all the people that have surrounded me this year and show my glory to God.
