The Assembly voted almost-unanimously to expand Medicaid coverage for postpartum women. The Medicaid expansion will allow low-income mothers to receive essential healthcare for 12 months after giving birth, instead of the current two months.
This bipartisan bill will help reduce pregnancy-related deaths and infant mortality rates—a win for Wisconsin mothers and babies.
The Assembly unanimously passed Gail’s Law, another bill protecting women’s health, by requiring health insurance policies to cover diagnostic breast exams and supplemental screening exams for women that are at an increased risk of breast cancer.
This legislation honors Gail Zeamer, a Wisconsin woman who passed away from breast cancer in 2024. This bill will lead to earlier detection of breast cancer, ultimately saving lives.
Having already passed the Senate earlier in the legislative session, both these bills now head to the Governor’s desk for his signature.
