Rep. Kreibich column; WI State Assembly votes to protect women’s sports

Posted

Recently in the Wisconsin State Assembly, Assembly Bills 100 and 102, which together make up the Saving Women’s Sports Act, were passed with bipartisan support, which is rare to see in the Legislature. The first bill requires Wisconsin’s K-12 schools to place student athletes in sports and locker rooms based on their biological sex and the latter bill requires the same standard to be enforced at Wisconsin’s colleges and universities.

Biological men competing in women’s sports divisions has become a serious issue in recent years, as it creates an unfair playing field and makes biological women more vulnerable to serious injury. Men are stronger and faster than women because of differences written in their biology, like higher testosterone levels, muscle mass, and cardiovascular capacity. This makes men and women perform at different levels of athleticism and it is not fair to force biological women to compete against biological men, who will outrun and outdo them every single time.

Serious injuries have been sustained by biological female athletes while competing against biological men, including concussions, tooth fractures, and even nerve damage. While it is inevitable that athletes will sustain injuries while playing sports, injuries caused by biological differences are 100% preventable. Men and women must have separate sports divisions because of their biological differences.

Keeping men’s and women’s sports separate based on biological sex has an 80/20 public polling. All Assembly Republicans and one Assembly Democrat believe this is something worth fighting for, and are committed to protecting the women’s sports divisions of Wisconsin.
