Rep. Rob Kreibich: Condemns Judge Dugan

Posted

The FBI did the right thing by arresting Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan because no one is above the law. The actions of Judge Dugan were dangerous not only to the integrity of the Wisconsin judicial system but to the faith in the rule of law across the United States.

On April 18 while ICE and FBI officials were pursuing an arrest of an illegal immigrant in the Milwaukee County Courthouse, eye witnesses allege Dugan ushered the intended arrestee into a nonpublic hallway in the Courthouse in what seemed to be an attempt to hide the illegal immigrant from deportation officials.

Though the officials were thankfully able to arrest the criminal outside of the courthouse, Dugan was arrested a week later and charged with two crimes for interfering with ICE and abetting a criminal in evading arrest.

It is anti-American and contrary to the judiciary’s role of upholding the law to assist criminals.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court—with a liberal majority—voted unanimously to suspend Dugan from the bench while her criminal proceedings take place. If the allegations turn out to be confirmed, it is essential Dugan is held fully accountable by the full extent of the law. Whether it be impeachment by the Wisconsin State Assembly or disbarment by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, unlawful judges must be dealt with appropriately to ensure the people of Wisconsin can trust their public officials to fulfill their constitutional oath.

Though Dugan’s actions were objectionable, I would hardly call them surprising given Gov. Evers and other Democrats’ encouragement and guidance on how to not cooperate with ICE agents. Refusal to cooperate with immigration officials should not be commonplace in Wisconsin.
