Rep. Warren Petryk: Have a joyous holiday season

Posted

The holiday season brings forth an opportunity to spend time with loved ones, infused with a sense of positive optimism and reflection. During this time traditions take center stage like adorning the tree and embarking on a festive drive to marvel at the neighborhood's twinkling Christmas light display.

One of these traditions for me the past 13 years includes seeing the Madison state capitol Christmas tree! Throughout the holiday season, the Capitol Christmas Tree is displayed in the rotunda of the Wisconsin State Capitol and serves as a focal point of celebration for everyone visiting and working at the Capitol Building. Every year, the Capitol Christmas Tree is decorated with handcrafted ornaments produced by children, students, and families from around the state. The theme for the 2023 Capitol Christmas Tree is "Celebrating 175 years of Wisconsinites."

And part of the spirit that drives Wisconsinites is our ability to help others and volunteer, not just during the holidays but all year round. When we consider the real purpose of volunteering, we see that, similar to the Madison State Capitol Christmas tree, our combined efforts become the center of community joy. Like handmade decorations, every act of kindness bears witness to the compassion that enters people's hearts, motivated by the model of selfless service.

And the act of volunteering extends well beyond the initial deed of compassion. Volunteering not only helps the community's members meet specific needs, but it also strengthens their sense of belonging. If you are interested in volunteering in the community you can visit "Service Wisconsin" at servicewisconsin.wi.gov to learn more about opportunities throughout Wisconsin. This website is a great tool that helps people find a variety of passions that they feel strongly about and connects them with a local organization.

It is my hope that you get the opportunity to share in a joyful moments with loved ones during this holiday season and that you have the chance to help others as well. Prayers to you all and have a merry and blessed holiday season!
