As your state representative, I want to draw attention to the significance of Law Enforcement Appreciation Day which occurred recently. This day offers our community a vital chance to get together and show our appreciation to the hardworking law enforcement personnel who protect our neighborhoods. They are essential to preserving peace, safeguarding citizens, and enforcing the rule of law.
Our law enforcement officers in the 93rd Assembly District go above and above by building dependable relationships, promoting community involvement, and responding quickly to critical concerns. Let us take a moment to express our gratitude to these heroes who serve our community without expecting anything in return, protecting the values that the people of the 93rd Assembly District of Wisconsin hold dear.
Supporting our law enforcement officers has long been a priority for me since being elected and that continues throughout this session.
As Chair of the Assembly's Workforce Development Committee, I recognize the workforce shortage crisis is affecting many employers across our state, and our law enforcement agencies are not exempt from this issue. We have explored multiple solutions to help, and I believe we are seeing positive progress across the state, but our work is not done.
To help alleviate some of the barriers for recruitment, I co-authored Assembly Bill 620 with Rep. Donovan and Sen. James. As we all know, smaller law enforcement agencies have a more difficult time attracting staff because they often cannot afford to send new recruits to the police academy before hiring them. This puts them at a disadvantage because larger departments can hire people before they are trained. This bill would help resolve this issue by providing funding to our local communities to assist with these costs when they know a retirement is coming or if they are understaffed to be able to better plan out their workforce needs.
As this session moves forward, I will continue to support legislation that helps those who are keeping us safe in our communities. Thank you again to all those who continue to serve our community and if you have a chance, please say thanks to them.
