The bascule (lift) bridge that carries US 10 over the St. Croix River from Prescott to Point Douglas Park in Denmark Township, Minn., will be closed overnight for up to three nights, so bridge engineers from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and crews from the Pierce County Highway Department can make repairs to the structure
Bridge closures are planned from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the nights of Sunday, Oct. 4, Monday, Oct. 5 and possibly Tuesday, Oct. 6. In addition, daytime work will result in interior lane closures in both directions on the bridge from Monday through Thursday, Oct. 8.
The nighttime closures are necessary to replace the structure’s live load shoes – the hardened steel support blocks that transfer vehicular traffic weight from a closed bascule bridge leaf directly to the resting pier. During the day, crews also will be completing normal maintenance activities, including patching concrete pavement and welding the grid floor, and taking soil borings in advance of a bridge rehabilitation project currently scheduled for 2031. All work is weather dependent.
During bridge closure, traffic will be detoured in Wisconsin via US 10, WIS 35 and I-94 and Minnesota via MN 95 and US 10.
