The River Falls High School baseball team played three games to start the short week after Memorial Day weekend. The Wildcats were able to pick up a 5-1 win in their home game against Eau Claire North Wednesday, but lost to Eau Claire Memorial both Tuesday and Thursday at home and on the road.
Tuesday, June 1, the Wildcats were the first to get the run game going against Eau Claire Memorial as they scored three runs in the top of the first.
Tuesday’s game had Eli Condon starting on the mound for the Wildcats. Condon was effective through five innings giving up only four runs, three of them earned for Eau Claire Memorial.
Going into the sixth, the Wildcats were only down a run. However, the game would soon go out of reach for the Wildcats, as Eau Claire Memorial went off with an eight run sixth inning. After the eight-run top of the sixth by Eau Claire Memorial, the Wildcats were only able to score one run back in the bottom half of the inning, having the final score land at 12-4, Eau Claire Memorial over River Falls.
On the hitting side, shortstop Ragan Pinnow had an outstanding game Tuesday for the Wildcats going two for three with a triple.
Wednesday, June 2, fared much better for the Wildcats. Like the day before they were able to get runs on the board first with a 1-0 lead over Eau Claire North after one inning.
Keenan Mork started Wednesday’s game and was lights out for the Wildcats. Mork went six innings giving up only six hits, a walk and one run in his performance against Eau Claire North.
Scoring was silent in the second and third innings for both teams, then in the bottom of the fourth, the Wildcats were able to tag on four more runs with doubles from right fielder Sam Cleveland and second baseman Michael Krueger.
Eau Claire North scored one run in the top of the fifth, but were shut down in the final inning as Jack Gehl closed the 5-1 victory for the Wildcats.
Thursday, June 3, was a less devastating loss for the Wildcats against Eau Claire Memorial on the road.
The game did not start well for the Wildcats as they gave up three runs in the bottom of the first to Eau Claire Memorial. From there, Eau Claire Memorial was able to score a run every inning of the game except the bottom of the fourth.
The Wildcats were able to score a run each in the top of the second and third to keep up with Eau Claire Memorial, but after a two-run bottom of the fifth. Memorial was able to keep the game out of reach from the Wildcats, ending the game with an 83 final.
Currently the Wildcats sit at a record of 7-8 on the season. They play four games this week, Tuesday, June 8 and Thursday, June 10 against Menomonie. The Wildcats play a home doubleheader Friday, June 11 against Wausau West High School and Tomah High School.
