The River Falls School District welcomed school district residents to a Nov. 4 open house, showcasing the completed projects from an approved 2024 facilities referendum.
At the high school, changes include a weightroom expansion with new equipment, artificial turf space indoors to provide further opportunities and a new wrestling room.
“It’s going to be a great facility both for our high school athletes and for our community in general to use,” High School Principal Kit Luedtke said.
Gone are the days of the wrestling team practicing in the basement of Meyer Middle School, as the referendum included a new space at the high school for the team to work out.
In the main gym, the floor was resurfaced and the bleachers were redone for the first time in 20-plus years.
For the bleachers, custodial staff previously had to pull out each of the handrails before stacking the bleachers. Luedtke expects the new bleachers to save an hour and a half to two hours on set up and tear down time during after school events.
“This is the first time that we actually resurfaced the entire gym floor in the 20-plus years that we’re here,” Luedtke said.
The new training space opens a variety of options for the district in the future.
“Our community uses our public school areas all of the time whether it’s pickleball leagues at Greenwood on Sunday afternoons, whether it’s youth basketball or other organizations in all of our elementary areas, our community was needing more gym space, was needing more athletic space,” Luedtke said. “This allows for our students both here at the high school level and within the community of River Falls to be deepened in athletics, activities and things that we want our kids to have from a wellness standpoint.”
An entire new building was constructed to be the new main hub of the transportation center.
The sentiment from the transportation staff at the open house was that the changes make a major difference. On display was a bus jacked up about 8 feet in the air to showcase how much simpler it will be for maintenance of the buses. They said they already caught a leak right away because they could see where it was coming from.
One staff member said coming into the new facility in the morning already makes people more excited about their days. The office space is also vast in the new building.
