RIVER FALLS – The River Falls School Board held interviews on Monday, June 28 to fill a vacant seat previously held by Mike Thompson who recently resigned. The board interviewed five candidates to fill this position and came to a decision Monday night during a special board meeting.

The board appointed Lindsey Curtis to hold this position until the April 2022 election. School Board President Stacy Johnson Myers said in a press release, “Lindsey demonstrated considerable knowledge of educational issues and an understanding for the school district.”

Curtis has experience and a background in elementary education from previously held positions as a teacher and administrator. She currently is a stay-at-home mother and a volunteer at Westside Elementary School.

Curtis said, “I sought this position because I want to be a part of the collaborative effort that builds strong bonds and a trusting relationship between our school district and our community.”

The press release also states that Curtis has been present at many of the committee meetings the past few months. Curtis said, “As a board member, I intend to put students first, listen to the voices of parents and families, support teachers and staff, lean on expertise of administrators and maintain transparent accountability with taxpayers.”

Curtis will begin in her new position effective immediately. She said, “I look forward to the work that lies ahead and am eager to serve our community in this new role.”

The press release also said, “The school board recognizes and thanks the other four people who courageously and graciously put their names forward to be considered for the open school board position. The School District of River Falls and the River Falls community has much to be proud of that so many wellqualified citizens stepped forward to serve.”
