TOWN OF ROCK ELM – This year’s Rock Elm Old Settler’s Annual Meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026 at the Rock Elm Methodist Church with the meal beginning at noon. Lunch will be served at noon as a free will offering with a brief meeting and then a special program to follow. This year’s program will be highlighting some of Rock Elm’s Civil War Veterans. If you have a Rock Elm Civil War veteran in your tree and want to present, please contact Julie Huebel with the Pierce County Historical Association. If you plan to attend, please RSVP so we can make sure to have enough of the traditional meal: chicken pot pie, squash, coleslaw, cranberry sauce, and pie. Open to all, tell family, friends and neighbors.

Sharing here a bit of Rock Elm history just discovered on eBay. This photo is a picture of the Poplar Hill Cemetery in the old village of Rock Elm from a postcard mailed in 1907. It was mailed to a Miss Emma Gilsdorf in Kellogg, Minn. It reads: “Yes I will come over there if you find me a job for all winter.” Emma was born in 1890 to Henry and Katherine Gilsdorf and was married in 1915 to Anton Hoffmann. Emma would have been about 17 at the time. The sender remains a mystery.

We hope you will join us to celebrate and honor our original settlers at this year’s annual meeting of the Rock Elm Old Settlers, a tradition dating back to 1886. You are invited by the Rock Elm Old Settlers Board: Sky Holt, Monica Robey, and Julie Huebel. The Rock Elm Old Settlers are a group under the Pierce County Historical Association.

RSVP to: info@piercecountyhistorical.org, 715-594-3118, or message PCHA on Facebook.
