RIVER FALLS – The St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra (SCVSO) presents Scandinavian pianist Oda Voltersvik from Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 12-15, in concerts and events at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Voltersvik currently resides in Bergen, Norway, and will participate in a tour of the U.S., performing concerts throughout the Midwest.

“It is such an honor to host internationally acclaimed pianist Oda Voltersvik as a guest soloist playing the Grieg Piano Concerto with the SCV Symphony Orchestra," Director Kris Tjornehoj said.

Voltersvik’s residency kicks off with a solo performance “Nordic Unrest” for the Frances Cohler Coffee Concert Series on Friday, Oct. 13, at noon in Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building on campus. This event is free and open to the public. Join us for coffee, cookies and conversation following the concert. A masterclass for pianists and musicians will begin at 2 p.m. where Voltersvik will share information regarding her journey at home and abroad.

On Saturday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m., "An Evening of Norwegian Music" will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minn. The Trinity Lutheran Choir with director Clark Weyrauch will perform, in addition to the SCVSO with director Tjornehoj, organist Carol Carver and guest artist Voltersvik. A free will offering will be taken at this event, followed by a champagne reception in the lobby following the concert.

On Sunday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m., Voltersvik will perform the Grieg Piano Concerto, mvt. 1, with the SCVSO in Abbott Concert Hall at UWRF.  Other selections include "Jupiter" from the Planets by Gustav Holst, American Salute by Morton Gould, Fiddler on the Roof selections, arr. by Felton Rapley, and Wedding Day at Troldhaugen op. 65, no. 6 by Edvard Grieg. The University Community Chorus led by director Deborah Fristad will also be a part of this program. Tickets available at the door: $8/adults, $5/seniors, $2/students.

For more information, call Tjornehoj at 715-410-7416.
