School board studies CVTC programs, looks to replace board member

Posted

The Ellsworth Community School Board makes it clear they want local students to succeed in life.

Ellsworth High School currently offers academies for students to earn certification in a specific field, including Welding, Construction, EMT/EMR, and Information Technology.

They hope to add two more with the help of Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC).

CVTC is gauging interest in local communities after they identified that as a state and country, we aren’t sending enough teachers or healthcare workers into the workforce. CVTC hopes to combat that by offering an Introduction to Education as well as a Healthcare Academy. Students can get a head start on their future career path, and CVTC is working with the UW – River Falls and UW– Stout to also make these credits transferrable.

Board member Katie Feuerhelm also pointed out that it gives students a chance to dip their toes in the water without fully committing to a field after they graduate from high school.

The Board went into closed session at the end of the meeting to discuss the Middle School Principal hire and administrative structure and roles.

The Board is beginning the process of filling a vacant seat after member Dana Glor submitted his resignation on the first of this month.

The person filling the vacancy will fulfill Glor’s term through April of 2022. They will also have the option to run for their own three-year term if they desire.

Superintendent Barry Cain can be reached for inquiries into the vacancy with a letter of interest at [email protected] To ensure consideration, the letter of interest must be received in the Office of the District Administrator prior to 4:00 p.m. on March 4, 2021 and the listing of candidate questions must be received in the Office of the District Administrator prior to 4:00 p.m. on March 17, 2021. Interviews for the open position will be conducted on March 22, 2021.
