Ellsworth Village Board Trustee Tom Schutz announced his resignation last week from the board in the Ellsworth Community Happenings Facebook group, citing village spending habits and transparency as reasons why.
Schutz initially posted about upcoming village board elections, encouraging people to run or make their voices heard.
“Village of Ellsworth Residents Election time is coming up. We need change. Get your papers and run for The President position or one of the Trustee positions,” Schutz stated.
Commenting under his own post, Schutz announced that he had resigned.
“As of today at 10:45am on 12/17 I have resigned from the Trustee position at the Village of Ellsworth. I can't take anymore, everything is petty much settled behind that brown door before it even goes before the committee. Along with the lies, and they have been caught in several,” Schutz stated.
As of Thursday, Dec. 19, the village received the resignation and a statement was released.
“Trustee Tom Schutz has resigned from the Village Board. We would like to thank him for his time and commitment to the community,” a statement from the village read.
Village President Becky Beissel also made a statement regarding the resignation.
“We would like to thank Tom for his service and wish him well in the future,” Beissel stated.
Underneath his announcement, Schutz was asked if there was a “straw that broke the camel’s back.”
“To many things get ok'd in the clerks office before it even comes out to the committes. I got a survey letter from the Village. One of the questions, where do you see the Village in 30 years? Only one answer, BROKE Spend spend spend And the list goes on and on. Money that was spent, because one person thought a digester would be an excellent idea for the Village of Ellsworth. Thank God for the people that came out and protested this,” Schutz stated.
Schutz said he may leave the board during a meeting in June, walking out of Village Hall during the meeting. He ultimately remained a trustee on the board and was present at the next monthly meeting.
“This may be my last meeting because I’m so sick of this frickin’ board lying,” Schutz said back in June.
The Pierce County Journal reached out to Schutz for comment but did not receive one.
