Senior Gathering Place summer update and activities

PRESCOTT – Greetings seniors of Prescott! We haven’t gone away. Due to the construction going on at our location (former Malone Intermediate School, soon to be Middle School) we have temporarily relocated for the summer.

Tuesday: The walking group meets at 9 a.m. at Joy Lutheran parking lot. Pickleball begins at 9 a.m. at Lions Park. Contact Arlene at 612-396-4063 for more information. On the first, second and third Tuesdays, we meet at 1 p.m. in the lower level of the First National Bank (1151 Canton St.) for games and Canasta.

Book Club: At 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 25 and Tuesday, Aug. 22 at Freedom Park Pavilion. The July book is “Kitchens of the Great Midwest” by J. Ryan Strada. Contact Cathy Martin for your copy. The August book is “As I Lay Dying” (a banned book) by William Faulkner.

Wednesdays: Meet at 12:30 p.m. in the lower level of First National Bank for Euchre and Bridge.

Special events

Reminder for those who signed up earlier this summer: 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 13 is the first boating on the Mississippi event. Meet at 9:45 a.m. at Joy Lutheran parking lot. We’ll head down to the landing and board a pontoon. Fee for the ride is $10. The trip is sponsored by the Hastings Rotary Club. Note: there are no bathrooms on the pontoon.

From 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, July 18 in the second boat trip. Meet at 12:45 p.m. at Joy Lutheran parking lot to travel to the boat landing and board the pontoon. Fee is $10 and Hastings Rotary is sponsoring the trip. There are no bathrooms on the boat.

Fall Kick-Off Potluck Picnic: Noon at Tuesday, Aug. 29 at Freedom Park. Hot dogs and brats will be provided. Bring a friend and a dish to pass!

Memory Café: 10-11:30 a.m. first and third Fridays of each month in the lower level of the First National Bank.

Tentative reopening of the Senior Gathering Place is Tuesday, Sept. 5. We will be in the same room with entrance at Door 5 of the new Middle School, 1220 St. Croix St. All seniors 55 and older are welcome!
