Ellsworth Fire Department responded to two fires in three days last week during frigid temperatures.
Firefighters were dispatched at 2:09 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 to an outbuilding fire at N7063 Highway 63 in the town of Martell. When crews arrived on scene, they found an approximately 8-by-12-foot yard shed containing a wood boiler and ATV completely collapsed. The fire had spread to a wood pile next to the shed.
The fire was contained to the shed and the residence onsite was not damaged. Two adults were home at the time but reported no injuries. The homeowners were burning wood in the outdoor wood boiler at the time of the fire. Pierce County property records list the property owners as Daniel and Eileen Ostendorf.
Three days later, firefighters responded at 1:55 a.m. Jan. 16 to a chimney fire at N3007 840th St. in the town of Trenton. When crews arrived they found the fire had extended into the wall of the residence. Crews worked to expose the fire in the walls and extinguish it for approximately two hours. The fire was confined to the room of origin although the residence did receive extensive damage to one exterior wall. Residents were actively burning wood at the time of the fire. The two adult residents and their pets were able to evacuate without incident. No injuries were reported. Property records list the owner as Nathan R> Joyce.
Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, Pierce County Dispatch and Ellsworth Area Ambulance Service assisted Ellsworth Fire at the scenes.
