As Veterans Day approaches, we find ourselves reflecting on the meaning of service, sacrifice, and community. For those of us who have worn the uniform, Veterans Day is not just a date on the calendar — it’s a moment of remembrance, gratitude, and connection. It’s a day to honor those who came before us, those who stood beside us, and those who continue to serve today.
In Pierce County, we are proud to be a community that supports and stands by our veterans and their families. Every veteran has a story — stories of courage, perseverance, and love of country. Some returned home to start families and careers, while others continue to face the lasting challenges that military service can bring. Every one of them deserves to be seen, heard, and supported.
That’s why this year, our county is once again taking part in Operation Green Light, a national initiative to show visible support for our veterans. From Nov. 4 through Nov. 11, we invite everyone to shine a green light in a window, on a porch, or at a business to let our veterans know they are not alone and that their service continues to matter.
Green is the color of hope, renewal, and well-being. By lighting our homes and buildings green, we are sending a message that we see our veterans, we appreciate them, and we are committed to helping them find the resources and support they need. Our County Courthouse and county buildings will be glowing green throughout the week of Veterans Day, and we hope you’ll join us in lighting up the community with gratitude.
As your County Veterans Service Office, we want every veteran and family member to know that you are never forgotten. Whether you need help navigating VA benefits, accessing healthcare, or finding assistance during a difficult time — our office is here for you. Reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness, and together we can work through whatever challenges may come your way.
This Veterans Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to thank a veteran, share their story, and shine a green light of appreciation. Let’s come together as a community to honor the past, support the present, and build hope for the future.
