The Prescott Football team began practice this week and hopes to make similar noise in the Middle Border Conference as they did in 2024. The Cardinals will have to replace a strong senior class that led the Cardinals to a 9-2 finish. According to local prognosticators, the conference will be wide open this fall. Prescott returns senior Kobe Russell and senior speedster Andrew Lesso. Senior Brody Temmers is the leading candidate to replace All Conference Quarterback Teddy Bernick.

Senior Linebacker Jack Olson and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls begin practice this weekend. A 2022 Cardinal alumnus, Olson is coming off a strong season for the Falcons who are ranked #19 in the NCAA Division 3 Preseason poll. The Falcons finished 7-3 last season and are listed in the pre-season rankings for the fourth consecutive year. Olson is not the only Prescott grad on the Falcon roster. Sophomore Linebacker Brady Block will also put on the pads for River Falls this season.

Another 2022 Prescott graduate, Aiden Russell will be playing linebacker this season at Valley City State University in North Dakota. Russell spent last season at Northern State. A trio of 2025 grads who plan to play at the next level include David Regnier at the University of St. Thomas, Will Packard at UW-LaCrosse and Teddy Bernick at the University of St. Scholastica.

Prescott volunteer extraordinaire Dennis Gagnier will be inducted into the Prescott Hall of Fame.
Gagnier donated countless hours of his own time to many civic organizations and to the youth of Prescott. Gagnier received the prestigious statewide “Distinguished Service Award” from the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association for his work with Prescott Baseball. WBCA Executive Board Member Ron Kading referred to Gagnier as “a real champion and tireless supporter of youth baseball in Prescott and an asset to the baseball community in the state of Wisconsin”. Gagnier along with Prescott Malone Elementary Principal Marcia Lindseth and 1976 Prescott graduate Lonnie Larson will make up the Hall of Fame Class of 2025. According to Hall of Fame Committee Chair Jeremy Kerg inductees will be introduced at halftime of the October 3rd Football game against St. Croix Central. The induction banquet will be held at the Prescott High School Commons on Saturday, October 4th beginning at 6:00 pm. Tickets for the 6th annual event will be $30 and will soon be available for purchase.

There are fewer outdoor spaces more immaculate and manicured than Laney Field at Prescott High School. Hats off to Prescott School District Employees Bob Feyereisen and Adam Rohl for a job that would impress any TruGreen Technician or Pro’s Touch Landscaping.

Enrollment is the primary factor in the WIAA football playoff format. With an enrollment of 396, Prescott is the lone school listed Division 5 School in the Middle Border Conference. The seven other teams in the conference begin the regular season in Division 4. The Altoona Railroaders have the largest enrollment in the Middle Border with 561 students.

Prescott Alumnus Reese Ptacek is set to begin her second season as a member of the Kansas Jayhawk Volleyball Team. The Sophomore Middle Blocker is coming off a year where the former Cardinal alumnus was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year and was a unanimous Big 12 All Rookie Team selection. The Jayhawks are expected to challenge for the Big 12 title this season. Natalie Ptacek, a 2025 Prescott Cardinal graduate, will be playing Division 1 Volleyball for the Kansas City Roos, an NCAA Division I team that competes in the Summit League. Good luck to both this season.

From the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources…The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds eligible hunters hoping to participate in the Gun Deer Hunt for Hunters With Disabilities to contact and confirm a location with a hunt landowner sponsor before Sept. 15, 2025. Thousands of acres of land are available for this year's hunt, which will take place Oct. 4-12, 2025. Hunters should contact sponsors directly to participate in the 2025 hunt. Some properties can accommodate more hunters than others, so hunters are advised to contact potential sponsors as early as possible to determine availability. To sign up for a hunt, hunters or assistants should provide their name, contact information and DNR customer ID number. To be eligible, hunters must possess a valid Class A, C or D disabled permit or qualifying Class B permit. Eligible hunters may sign up for one sponsored property per year and must possess a gun deer license.

Headshaker of the Week. Don’t tell me it’s culture. Don’t tell me “things are different down there.” I have no interest listening to anyone who justifies the following. A Georgia high school will open the 2025 at a new football facility this fall. Good for them. But that is not what is ridiculous. It’s the price tag. The new “field” cost $62,000,0000. A high school field. You have got to be kidding me. Now that’s a headshaker.
