North Dakota State took three of four against South Dakota State this past weekend and entered their final series of the season with an over record of 36-14._ The Bison finished Summit League play with a record of 20-11 just behind conference leader Oral Roberts._ In Saturday’s win over South Dakota State, Pete Brookshaw’s two-run single in the bottom of the eighth gave the Bison a 5-3 lead over the Jack Rabbits. It was the 2018 Prescott alumni’s 37th and 38th run batted in on the year._North Dakota State travels to Eastern Kentucky to close out the regular season and will play in the Summit Conference tournament and vie for a spot in the NCAA tournament._ Cardinal baseball fans got a chance to see St. Croix Falls left-handed Jared Lessman this past Saturday._ Armed with a fastball that is consistently between 87-89 mph, Lessman plans on attending community college baseball power Iowa Western next season. _ St. Croix Falls is currently atop the Heart of the North Conference and one of the favorites to advance to Appleton next month._ From the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources: Be careful and mindful. The DNR is asking the public to stay vigilant and avoid burning because of very high fire danger across Wisconsin, particularly in the northern two-thirds of the state.
The increased fire danger is due to the low relative humidity expected across the state, with the lowest values expected across northern Wisconsin. Temperatures will be warm and the air over Wisconsin will be dry, which are weather conditions that aid in the spread of fires._One of the largest wildfires to hit Wisconsin occurred in 2013 and was called the Germann Road Fire._It consumed 7,499 acres and destroyed 104 structures (23 of them residences) in the towns of Gordon and Highland in Douglas County and the Town of Barnes in Bayfield County. An estimated 350 structures were saved due to fire control efforts. The fire began around 2:45 p.m. on May 14, 2013, burning a swath nearly 10 miles long and a mile-and-a-half wide before being declared 100 percent contained on May 15 at 9 p.m. The fire was started unintentionally from a logging crew harvesting timber on industrial timber lands.
Several candidates were interviewed last week for the Prescott School District Athletic/ Activities Director position. _ Outgoing Athletic Director/Assistant Principal Matt Smith has accepted a position in the River Falls School District.__ As many expected, the Middle Border Conference baseball race is wide open._Heading into the week three teams, Osceola, Baldwin- Woodville, and Prescott are tied for the lead in league play in a week with three conference games._The Cardinals will face Somerset, Ellsworth, and Osceola this week._The Prescott Cardinal softball team is right on the heels of Baldwin-Woodville._ The showdown between the two area softball powers is slated for May 27 in Baldwin.__ Nice touch. Hats off to the Prescott Cardinal senior baseball players on presenting the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association Distinguished Service award to long-time Prescott baseball booster and volunteer Dennis Gagnier._ Prescott Cardinals pitchers have picked off seven runners this year, the most in well over a decade. Speaking of pitchers, for the first time in years the Middle Border Conference has five pitchers that throw well into the 80’s._ The University of Wisconsin- Whitewater and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point baseball teams tied for the WIAC regular season championship._This marks the first time since 2009 that the league title has been shared. UW-Stevens Point’s championship is the 10th in program history and first since the 2011 campaign. UW-Whitewater placed first in the WIAC standings for the fourth consecutive season – and 20th overall._ White is ranked #3 in the most recent NCAA Division national poll._ Headshaker of the week: Some irresponsible dolts vandalized the portable bathrooms down at Firehall Field recently._ Additionally, my guess is the same dullards threw plastic bottles and pet scat bags in aforementioned toilets._What makes it all the more ridiculous is there are waste receptacles adjacent to the portable bathrooms._Lazy, disrespectful, and any other word that means the same._What a headshaker._
