Congratulations to Prescott senior_ Isabella Lenz who this week officially signed a letter of intent to attend Michigan Tech University next year._ Lenz, a three time All Conference guard, was joined by Head Coach Rob Radloff and mask wearing teammates for a small signing ceremony held in the Prescott High School gym. Lenz,_ the Student Council President and a member of the National Honor Society, will play for Huskie Head Coach and Durand High School alumnus Sam Hoyt._ Speaking of girls basketball, practice starts this week for the defending Middle Border Conference champions. _ The fingers of both the boys and girls basketball players are crossed as they enter a season filled with questions. This week, Rob Radloff’s charges will be required to wear masks during practice and will be required to abide by Covid-19 protocols that have or will be established by both local and state health departments. This season there will be no jump ball to start games, social distancing rules must be followed on benches, game balls will be sanitized prior to the game and during time outs. The girls basketball team is slated to open the 2020-21 season at home against Cochrane-Fountain City. The boys basketball team is tentatively slated to Practice starts for Cardinal wrestlers on Monday November 24th._ Head Coach Jordan Poirier and his grapplers must wear masks while competing and are only allowed to participate in dual meets. The team is scheduled to open the season on December 5th when the Cardinals host the Somerset Spartans. Prescott wrestling alumnus Jim Fleming is again expected to serve as an assistant coach this year._ The abbreviated 2020 Cardinal football season has come to a close._ Covid-19 led to dozens of cancellations around the state of Wisconsin this past weekend. _ The jury is still out as to whether or not there will be any more high school football played in the state due to a spike in virus cases around Wisconsin._ Despite having to endure a strange, virus plagued season there certainly were some bright spots for the Cardinals this year._ Talented running back Aiden Russell will return as will quarterbacks Grant Stanton and Cole Dravis. There will be a good nucleus in place for 2nd year Head Coach Jordan Hansen._ Let’s hope 2021 will be a return to normalcy for all of us._ Congratulations to Dennis Gagnier on being named the recipient of the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association District 1 Distinguished Service Award._ The longtime Prescott resident and baseball volunteer will be nominated for the WBCA State Award that will be named after the first of the year. Those connected to Prescott baseball are well aware of the countless hours of volunteer work the affable and amiable Gagnier gives to Cardinals baseball. Hats off!_ Congratulations to Prescott High School student Gracia Doyle on recent deer hunting success in Minnesota. _ _ The 9th grader recently harvested a nice eight point buck in the Land of 10,000 lakes and is among a handful of girls at Prescott High School that hunt the wily whitetail. Well done Gracia._ When it comes to high school boys, a brief anecdotal survey showed approximately 30-35% of boys will hit this wood this coming weekend._ A far cry from a time when upwards of 75% of boys donned blaze orange each November for the annual deer gun season.__ And from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources… With deer season underway and the 9-day gun deer season fast approaching, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds hunters to avoid placing deer stands in or near ash trees. Door County, plus counties in the southern half of Wisconsin and along the Mississippi River, are heavily impacted by ash trees that are dead or dying from emerald ash borer (EAB) infestation and may unexpectedly snap or drop large branches. Tree stand accidents are the leading cause of serious injury for deer hunters making it essential to place and maintain tree stands carefully. “Infested or dead ash trees are not as structurally sound as healthy trees, so they are not safe places to put deer stands,” said Bill McNee, DNR Forest Health Specialist. “At this time of year, it can be hard to tell if a tree is infected, so hunters should place deer stands in other types of trees instead.”

As hunters hit the wood this weekend it will be more than deer Wisconsin hunters will see during the nine day season._ Stories of bear, fox, wolves, coyotes, fishers, turkeys, grouse, and pheasants will be subjects of many stories both Saturday and Sunday evening. Good luck everyone and be safe._ Remember hunters, leave no trace in the woods._ Pick up your garbage, including those worn out hand warmers, styrofoam coffee cups, and all those beef stick wrappers. Don’t be a slob hunter._ Don’t be a headshaker.

open its season at home against River Falls on December 1st._
