The Prescott Cardinals will have an opportunity to avenge last Friday’s loss to Amery and will square off with the Warriors at 7 pm this Friday in a Level I playoff game at Amery._ The winner will play the winner of the game between Baldwin-Woodville and Altoona._ Congratulations to Ellsworth Head Football Coach Rob Heller and the Panthers on their Middle Border Conference championship. Led by quarterback Mason Anderson and wide receiver Jack Janke the Panthers finished the regular season with a record of 6-0._ Of Anderson’s 13 touchdown passes this season 10 of those went to the talented junior wideout._ Racine St. Catherine will enter the 2020-21 boys basketball season as the #1 ranked team in Division III. Other teams ranked in the Preseason top 10 include Brown Deer, Appleton Xavier, East Troy and Lake Mills._ The Altoona Railroaders enter the season ranked #8 and are the only team from Sectional I ranked in the top ten._ The Prescott Cardinals are listed as honorable mention heading into this year._ Head Coach Nick Johnson will enter the season with an overall record of 192-38, good for an impressive winning percentage of 83.4%._ The Prescott girls basketball team is slated to begin their season next week as they look to defend their conference championship._ Second year Head Coach Rob Radloff and the Cardinals have been picked as the favorite in the Middle Border this year and will be led by the likes of Michigan Tech bound Senior Isabella Lenz and fellow seniors Nicole Dalman, Tori Benck, Sydney Matzek, and Heather Hudak._ Baldwin-Woodville, New Richmond, and Somerset are expected to challenge the Cardinals for the league title._ Congratulations to Prescott High School Henry Gray on his most recent hunting success. The affable junior bagged an impressive 10 point buck recently and plans on summoning the skills of local taxidermist aficionado Leroy Schommer to complete a head mount of the impressive white tail._ With a raw score of 167
⅝ it is the highest scoring buck Gray has harvested._ Speaking of deer hunting, From the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources… Each year, hunters, meat processors and food pantries help families in need by working closely with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and its partners to donate thousands of pounds of venison to Wisconsin food pantries.'Whether it is harvesting an extra deer or donating the only deer they shoot, Wisconsin hunters have historically shown their willingness to help others by donating deer to the Deer Donation Program,' said Sarah Wyrick, DNR wildlife damage program assistant. 'As deer hunters begin preparations for this hunting season, we encourage them to consider the Deer Donation Program.' _ Since Wisconsin's Deer Donation Program first began in 2000, more than 92,000 deer have been donated, totaling more than 3.7 million pounds of venison distributed to food pantries And speaking of deer hunting, after doing a bit of research these tidbits of Wisconsin deer hunting history was uncovered._ In 1876 hunting deer with dogs was prohibited and in 1892 it was lawful to shoot any dog that was chasing deer. In 1905 salt licks were prohibited. In 1914 sadly 24 hunters were killed and 26 were wounded during the season. There was no season in 1927, 1929, 1931, 1933, and 1935._ Back tags are required in 1942. In 1945 Red was the required clothing for hunting with orange added as an alternative in 1951._ Menominee Tribal Member and longtime Civil Rights activist Richie Plass passed away last weekend._ Known throughout Wisconsin and the United States, Plass was one of the leaders of the movement to eliminate race based logos in Wisconsin public schools._ Over the years several Prescott students including Cody Rohl, Brenna Ryan, Jackie Cutler, and Zach Simones have presented at state and national conferences with Plass and also appeared on public television and radio programs with the legendary native advocate._ Headshaker of the week._ A deer hunter in Minnesota successfully harvested a white tail buck recently._ While trailing the animal, the hunter came upon a four foot alligator. _ After contacting State Game Wardens the hunter was told he could shoot the four foot cayman._ He did and plans to mount both of the deer and the wayward reptile in unison._ Obviously a slob pet owner released the gator into the wild just as many completely irresponsible fish pet owners release their goldfish into area bodies of water. Releasing goldfish or Gulf Coast Reptiles into the wild? It’s a headshaker and about as irresponsible as it can get._
