The most prominent name on the board is 2013 Prescott alumnus Sam Smith. The former star sprinter holds individual records in the 55, 100, 200, and 400 meter dashes. Smith also helped set the records in the 4 X 200, 4 X 400, and the spring medley relays._ Smith went on to an all conference and All American career in track and field at the University of Wisconsin- LaCrosse._ WIAA Associate Director Wade Labecki plans on meeting with members of the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association regarding possible venues for this year’s state baseball tournament. _ With the state tournament tentatively scheduled three weeks later, scheduling conflicts may requiring moving the three day event to another venue or perhaps multiple venues._ After several years of delay, St. Croix River Hounds are set to begin the construction this summer of their new baseball stadium at the former site of the old Hudson Dog Track._ The team will be affiliated with the Northwoods League and feature some of the best college baseball players in the Midwest. This summer Peter Brookshaw will play for the St. Cloud Rox of the Northwood League. A few years ago Michael Brookshaw played for the Mankato Moondogs. Two members of the River Hounds ownership group are St. Paul, Minnesota natives, brothers, and former Major League players Robb and Tom Quinlan.__ It all started on opening day April 11, 1973 when Yankees owner George Steinbrenner took his seat to watch his team’s first game of the season. Players lined up along the foul lines, removed their caps during the national anthem. As players took off their hats, Yankee Owner George Steinbrenner noticed several of the players had long hair and scruffy faces, a look Steinbrenner found extremely off putting. For the next few hours Steinbrenner wrote down the numbers of players he believed needed to change their look. After the game, the Yankee owner went to manager Ralph Houk, handed him the list and explained that these players, including Thurman Munson, Bobby Murcer, and Sparky Lyle, needed to cut their hair. As a result Steinbrenner decided he would create an official appearance policy for his team going forward: “All players, coaches and male executives are forbidden to display any facial hair other than mustaches (except for religious reasons), and scalp hair may not be grown below the collar.”_ Steinbrenner reiterated he wanted a clean, professional look that would “honor the Yankee tradition.” _ All identified players complied._ Even former Boston Outfielder Johnny Damon changed his Red Sox “Caveman” appearance when he signed as a free agent with the Yankees._ Headshaker of the week: I recently visited an area city park and while walking across a pond footbridge I noticed a large school of goldfish in the water._ Most likely some numbskull local aquarium owner grew tired of cleaning the family fish tank and decided to dump the pet store invasive fish species into the local city pond._ Unbelievably irresponsible, pathetic, lazy, and just plain wrong._ One thing for sure, it’s a headshaker.___
