Congratulations to the Prescott Cardinals girls golf team on winning the Middle Border Conference Championship. _ “Our play at New Richmond for the conference final was the best we had all season. Not only did we set a new record for low team score, a couple of the girls shot personal low scores. Both Junior Liz Rohl and Sophomore Rhi Stutz shot a personal best of 89._ Sophomore Ava Salay led the team with a round of 79. Our other counted round was Jessica Heinsch with a 95._ We were really proud of the team,” Coach Chad Salay said. All five Cardinal golfers scored in the top 15 meaning the entire club was named All Conference. _ Prescott opens regional play this week at Pheasant Hills Golf Club in Hammond, Wisconsin._ Last Friday in Baldwin, Junior quarterback Grant Stanton rushed for 121 yards on 22 carries in his varsity debut as the Cardinal signal caller._ The speedy Stanton also scored both touchdowns for the Cardinals. _ For Baldwin- Woodville_ it was quarterback Wyatt Larson who did most of the damage_ passing for 169 yards and 3 touchdowns. Other scores from the Middle Border…St. Croix Central walloped Amery 56-14 and the Ellsworth Panthers topped Osceola by a score of 28-12. Despite the postponement of the spring baseball season, approximately 40 games were played over the last two and half months._ Teams from Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Illinois, and Iowa visited Prescott this summer. Players not only gave Firehall
Field a workout throughout the July, August, and September, but hundreds of players and spectators patronized the Prescott areas.
Hats off to Dallas Eggers, Dennis Gagnier, Randy Hansen, and all the volunteers who made playing baseball in Prescott possible this year._ Along with hours of field maintenance, the Prescott CAB Company continued to make improvements to Firehall Field. The Bill Most Memorial Bench was installed courtesy of an in-kind donation from the Most family. New padding and nets were put up in front of the dugouts. Sadly, several incidents of vandalism this summer also made securing the field by locking gates and installing “doors” on the outside an unfortunate necessity._ Also, volunteers are hopeful a new maintenance shed will be completed before next season, the first step of the Phase Two construction project._ Additionally, A new double bullpen is under construction in foul territory down the right field line._ Speaking of baseball, the Prescott CAB Company will be hosting its annual helicopter ball drop this Saturday, October 3rd at Firehall Field. There are still some baseballs available for a chance to win a grand prize of $2,000 and multiple prizes of $500._ The helicopter drop will take place at 2:00 pm._ CAB Company volunteers are asking all those who attend to wear masks and maintain social distancing for the event._ Those interested in purchasing a baseball for the drop should contact Dallas Eggers._ The Prescott Hall of Fame Committee is accepting nominations for 2021 fall induction. _ Nomination forms can be found at https://www.prescott.k12.wi.u s/page/3192 or you can contact Hall of Fame Committee Chair Tanya Sponholz at the high school for further information. _ Upland bird hunters will be hitting the woods over the next few months in pursuit of ruffed grouse._ Prized by many hunters, grouse numbers have suffered significantly throughout Wisconsin. _ Veterans hunters wax poetic about deer hunting drives of years gone by that would not only rouse deer, but would also lead to multiple flushes of the popular game bird._ It appears the halcyon days of Wisconsin grouse hunting could be gone forever. Sadly, another casualty of climate change.__ Ninth grader Breckin Schommer and 11th grader Eric Korfhage were the top Prescott finishers in the Prescott Invitational Tournament last Thursday._ New Richmond took top honors with Tiger runners finishing first, second and third._ Osceola finished second and St. Croix Central finished third. While getting Firehall Field ready for games this Saturday volunteer extraordinaire Dallas Eggers found no less than a half dozen golf balls in the outfield, along with a few golf club divots._ You have got to be kidding me._ Using the outfield at Firehall Field to work on your short game in golf?
