Chris Terrazas screaming double to the left in the bottom of the ninth scored Peter Brookshaw from third as the Prescott Pirates defeated the Elmwood Expos by a score of 4-3._ Evan Bayer tossed seven gutsy innings before being replaced by Dylan Gausman, who picked up the win on the mound. Peter Brookshaw was 2-3 with two RBI doubles and Hunter Daymond finished 3-4 with an RBI single._ On Sunday the Pirates clobbered the New Richmond Millers by a softball-like score of 18-4.

Matt Kivi was the winning pitcher as the Pirates improved to 3-3 in league play.__ Vandals repeatedly sliced the netting in front of the 1st Base Dugout._ Quick repairs by Dennis Gagnier and company made the netting usable this weekend. The recently installed netting in front of both dugouts took several hours to install and cost hundreds of dollars._ CAB Company members and coaches are trying to figure out a plan to stop such jerky behavior._ As mentioned in a previous column, the WIAA is surveying school districts on the possibility of “flipping sports” some boys sports.

The idea being proposed by some districts is to move football to the spring and push the baseball season from May through July._ Area high school baseball coaches have expressed serious concerns regarding such a proposal and do not support the plan._ One Middle Border Coach said the plan “”would essentially be robbing baseball players of another season and would have a negative impact on participation._ It is a horrible plan and completely unfair to spring athletes.” _ The return of Chris Terrazas to the Prescott Pirates paid immediate dividends over the weekend._ The 2003 Prescott Alumnus was a Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association All State Infielder and played in the WBCA_ All Star Classic._ After high school, Terrazas went on to star at St. Olaf had a stellar collegiate career, finishing his career in top 10 in several offensive categories._ Terrazas was a three time All Conference selection at St. Olaf and was named NCAA All Midwest thrice and was voted the team MVP in 2005 and 2006._ Incidentally, it was Terrazas’s .526 school record batting average during his senior season at Prescott that was broken by Peter Brookshaw in 2017._ The North Dakota State infielder hit .583 for the Cardinals during his junior season and finished with a remarkable total of 22 doubles._ Speaking of Prescott Alumni, that was 2000 Prescott graduate Aric Kittelson behind the plate on Saturday and Sunday._ The former Cardinal pitcher/infielder teaches Math at St. Charles High School in Minnesota and has been umpiring baseball and officiating basketball for quite some time. Kittelson, who played collegiately at St. Mary’s College in Winona, was a member of the 1999 Division 2 State Runner Up team._ During the regular season that year,_ Kittleson struck out 16 Ladysmith batters in an early season loss to the Lumberjacks. _ Later in the year the two teams would square off in the sectional semi-final in Altoona, Wisconsin._ The Cardinals avenged their early season loss with a 5-3 win over the Lumberjacks, courtesy of Steve Bowen’s game winning, three run home run, in the rain, in the bottom of the 7th to send the Cardinals to the sectional championship. _ In the title game against Nekoosa,_ Kittlelson started on the mound and got the win as the Cardinals advanced to the state tournament There is a rumor the Pirates may try to entice 2015 Prescott alumnus and former All Conference first baseman Charlie Brookshaw into playing a few innings this summer. _ Brookshaw, who played football at UW-Eau Claire, was one hit away from hitting .500 his senior season for the Cardinals._ If the 6’5” Brookshaw could be lured into playing a few innings for the Black and Gold the starting infielder would look like this: Brookshaw at third, a Brookshaw at short, a Brookshaw at second, and a Brookshaw at first._ How about it Pirates? _ From the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources…. The deadline to apply for wolf, bobcat, fisher and otter permits is August 1st along with applications to apply for the Upriver Winnebago system sturgeon spearing season.
