From the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources: The regular goose season opens Sept. 16 statewide, and the daily bag limit is three Canada geese for the first portion of the season. During the holiday hunt, the daily bag limit increases to five birds in the Southern and Mississippi zones. Wisconsin's regular goose season dates vary by zone, so hunters should know which zone they plan to hunt. If hunting Canada geese during the regular Canada goose season, a regular Canada goose permit is required. The regular duck season opens in the Northern Zone on Sept. 27.
Headshaker of Week. As the 2025 summer baseball season winds down hundreds of youngsters are replacing their baseball gloves with football cleats, helmets, and flag football handkerchiefs. Before donning their pads, little leaguers of all ages played in end of season tournaments all around the Badger State. Parents, armed with coolers full of juice packets, Lunchables, and assorted freeze pops, cheer their children on with great gusto. Recently, I became aware of a group of area 7- and 8-year-olds who won a version of a Wisconsin state tournament. Reportedly, some adults requested the team to be driven around town by fire trucks to celebrate their championship because “that’s what they do when other teams win state.” Good for the young boys. But a fire truck ride around town for kids who are just learning their multiplication tables and to look both ways before they cross the street? Now that’s a headshaker.
