The Prescott baseball team and coaches will host their annual FREE Youth Baseball Clinic this Saturday at Firehall Field. The event will be divided into two-part sessions. The first session begins at 9 a.m. and will be for youngsters aged 6-9 years old. The second session for boys 10-13 will begin at 11:30. All participants will receive a free T-shirt and lunch courtesy of the Prescott baseball team. This is the 25th time the baseball team has sponsored this free event for Prescott youth. Additionally, members of Prescott baseball completed some volunteer work for retired Prescott High School Science teacher Ralph Chase.

Prescott Pitcher Dain Pechacek is 3-0 on the season and has not allowed an earned run this year. The senior righthander has struck out 15 in 13 innings and walked only two hitters. Opponents are hitting a paltry .111 against the three-year letterwinner. Pechacek plans on attending the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse next year.

Speaking of baseball, did you know the record of the Prescott High School varsity baseball teams since 1982 is 705-245?

The Prescott Hall of Fame Committee is accepting nominations for possible induction this coming fall. Registration materials are available on the Prescott School District website.  The Hall of Fame induction banquet is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4 at Prescott High School. More details to come. Nominations are due on July 1.

The #5 ranked Minnesota-State (Mankato) women’s track and field team finished atop the team standings in The Maverick Open on April 12, their first outdoor track meet of the season. Junior long distance runner Madison Matzek finished first in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase and helped the Mavericks easily outdistance second place Winona State in the 10-team invitational.

Pitcher Ella Stewart, a 2024 Prescott alumnus, heads into this week with an overall record of 7-2 with a team leading 1.27 ERA for the North Dakota College of Science Fastpitch team. Stewart has struck out 98 hitters in 66 innings pitched for the Bobcats who enter the last full week of April with an overall record of 33-12-1. The Bobcats are in first place in the Mon-Dak Conference with a 14-2 record. The North Dakota College of Science is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and is located in Wahpeton, ND.

Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association and Prescott Hall of Fame Member Steve Block will coach in the WBCA All Star Classic this coming June. Block won over 400 high school games during his career and led both Prescott and Ellsworth baseball teams to the WIAA State Tournament.

From the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources: The DNR recently announced the launch of their new Wisconsin Fishing Finder, a comprehensive online fishing resource for anglers. With over 15,000 inland lakes, 42,000 miles of perennial streams and rivers, 1,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline and 260 miles of the Mississippi River, Wisconsin offers seemingly endless angling opportunities. With so many choices, the Wisconsin Fishing Finder has been created to help anglers find the fishing spot they are looking for. Bravo and brave Wisconsin DNR.

Wisconsin operates 10 fish hatcheries throughout the state stocking muskellunge, brook trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, coho and chinook salmon, and suckers. Additionally, each of the six Wisconsin Bands of the Ojibwe operate hatcheries where they raise walleye, muskie, and suckers.

Headshaker of the week: It’s a sign of the times. An area elementary physical education teacher was teaching a basketball lesson/unit to a group of fourth graders. As is typical, a variety of balls were used with some regulation and a few other non-regulation basketballs. Soon after the lesson, a parent at the school with a daughter enrolled in the class expressed concerns to the teacher regarding the lesson.  The concerned parent wanted to make sure her daughter used a regulation basketball during class. The parent shared with the teacher that if her daughter did not use a WIAA approved basketball during phy ed class it would “screw up her shooting” for AAU basketball. A 9- or 10-year-old? Now that’s a headshaker.
