Prescott All State defensive back Kobe Russell has received his first football scholarship offer from perennial power North Dakota State. A junior, Russell is expected to receive multiple offers from NCAA Division 1 schools.
The Prescott boys basketball team is ranked #9 in Division 3 in week one of the Wisconsin Sports Network State Rankings. Milwaukee Academy of Science holds the top spot for the boys. The only area girls teams ranked in the top 10 in Division 3 are the Elk Mound Mounders. Laconia is the top ranked team in Division 3.
Six members of Kansas Jayhawk Volleyball  earned All Big 12  including Prescott alumnus Reese Ptacek who was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year. Ptacek was also named First Team All Big 12. The former Prescott Cardinal finished third among all Big 12 players with 1.27 blocks per
set during the season. Ptacek also had the highest hitting percentage in a single regular season league match this season, hitting .813 on Oct. 12 against Cincinnati. Ptacek tied for the second most blocks by a Big 12 player in a match this season with 11 against K-State on Oct. 17. Unfortunately, the Jayhawks were upset by Florida in Round 2 of the NCAA Division I Tournament. The Jayhawks finished the season with a record of 25-5 and were ranked in the Top 20 all season.
Freshmen Lila Posthuma and Bradley University improved to 5-2 on the season with a 62-57 victory over Northern Kentucky and a 75-57 win over Chicago State. Posthuma combined to score 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the two wins. This week Bradley will play Big 10 schools Illinois and Northwestern on the road.
Isabella Lenz scored 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out a team high five assists as Michigan Tech defeated Purdue-Northwest on Saturday by a score of 74-63. The Huskies picked up their first conference win of the season after falling to Kenosha-Parkside the night before in overtime. Lenz scored a career high 25 points in the loss to the Rangers. Michigan Tech returns to action early next month.
Congratulations to Head Baseball Coach Zac Eichten on winning the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association Ethics in Coaching Award. The Somerset native will begin his ninth year as head coach of the Spartans.
Snowmobile enthusiasts once again will be forced to travel to northern Wisconsin or the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to find both snow and open trails. Despite recent warm weather, snow depths were between one and two feet from Watersmeet, Mich. north. Incidentally, Watersmeet High School has one of the best high school mascots in the country…the Nimrods. The name with biblical roots is said to mean “mighty hunter.” That moniker is even better than Wisconsin's best - the Mellen Granite Diggers.
From the Department of Natural Resources: The DNR reminds deer hunters that although the 2024 nine-day gun deer season is now behind us, additional harvest opportunities remain available throughout the late fall and early winter. The statewide Antlerless-Only Hunt this week from Dec. 12-15 and the Antlerless-Only Holiday Hunt from Dec. 24-Jan. 1, 2025, in select Farmland Zone units. Additionally, the public is encouraged to participate in the 125th anniversary of the Wisconsin State Park System by purchasing their 2025 Wisconsin state park and forest vehicle admission pass. Both daily and 12-month vehicle admission and trail passes are available for purchase online. Customers who order their 12-month vehicle admission pass online will have it shipped directly to their preferred address. In 2025, the 12-month state park and forest vehicle admission passes will be valid until the date marked on the pass rather than
expiring at the end of the year. The pass makes for a great Christmas stocking stuffer.

Headshaker of the week. Over the past few weeks there has been discussion on some sports news outlets about the possibility of introducing a “golden at bat” rule in Major League Baseball. The rule would allow a team once per game to send any hitter to bat regardless of where they were in the batting order. Presumably it would allow the Dodgers to send Oshei Ohtani to hit for the #8 hitter with Dodgers trailing the Cubs 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth. When I first read of
this idea I thought it was an April Fool’s joke. It wasn’t. Although far from becoming a reality, team owners are seriously mulling the idea. You have got to be kidding me. It’s a headshaker.
