Congratulations to Dennis Olson on his 47 years of being a member of the chain crew for Prescott Cardinal football games._ Hats off to the former four sport high school athlete who has held the yardstick for well over 200 games at Laney Field.

Incidentally, Olson was also Class President and a member of the Pep Club, FFA, and choir._ Olson was also involved in the senior and junior class play and was crowned junior Prom King.

Hats off to Mr. Olson for his many years of volunteering._ Hats off to Jordan Hansen as he picked up his first win as a Head Coach last Friday as the Cardinals walloped Altoona by a score of 49-6.

Junior Kyle Budworth rushed for 146 yards, including scoring runs of 72 and 42 yards._ Fellow junior Aiden Russell rushed for 94 yards as the Cardinals racked up 350 yards on the ground against the Railroaders. _ This week, Prescott will host Osceola, who lost a heartbreaker to Somerset by a score of 22-21.__ In other conference action, Baldwin- Woodville eased by Amery 34-21 and Ellsworth remained undefeated and all alone atop the Middle Border Conference after a 26-22 win over St.

Croix Central._ Panther quarterback Mason Anderson threw three touchdown passes in the win. Look for Head Coach Rob Heller’s Panthers to soon crack the Top 10 in this week’s Wisconsin Football Coaches Association rankings.

The Prescott Cardinals volleyball team lost a tough match to conference leading St. Croix Central last week.

This week the Cardinals will tangle with Ellsworth and Osceola, both matches will be on the road._ Good luck to duck and upland bird hunters this coming weekend and subsequent weekends until the beginning of deer gun season. Also, good luck to hunters on finding shotgun or rifle ammunition on store shelves this hunting season. It’s slim pickings for all sorts of ammunition at Fleet Farm and other stores across Wisconsin and Minnesota._ Panic buying related to Covid-19 and increased hunting interest are identified as the primary cause of the ammo shortage._ This past Saturday retired educator Ed Lucas and community volunteer Jon Anfinson began constructing the bullpen mounds in foul territory down the right field line at Firehall Field._ Once the dual mounds have been installed, The CAB Company plans to remove the bullpen area behind the 1st base dugouts and allow spectators to watch games from behind the dugout. Well done Mr. Lucas and Mr. Anfinson for volunteering their time….again._ Growing up we all had sports heroes._ We pretended to be Bart Starr, Barry Sanders, or Hank Aaron._ We were Julius Irving, Larry Bird, or Reggie Jackson. Today, kids do the same but the venue may be the couch instead of the back yard. But when it comes to sports heroes one quality appears to be waning. Humility. _ It seemingly is no longer in style and that’s sad. What does humility look like? What does it mean to be a successful, humble athlete? The humble welcomes correction from coaches and teammates recognizing such feedback will make them better._ The humble athlete always applauds the accomplishments of their teammates and realizes what they have accomplished is not possible without their help. The humble athlete accepts defeat with grace and when they lose are willing to recognize their opponent might have played better._ The humble athlete is also willing to extend congratulatory remarks to their opponent after a loss._ On the other hand,_when the humble athlete wins, there are no excessive celebrations, no inappropriate victory dances, or maniacal chest thumping. The humble athlete respects the officials, fans and everything associated with the game._ The humble athlete is professional, respectful, and selfless. _ Recently I had a conversation with a couple veteran Prescott fans about the high school athlete of today._ I asked this question, “Who are some of the most humble athletes you have seen in Prescott over the years?”_ After a momentary pause, each began rattling off a handful of names alternately as the other usually nodded in agreement._ It is a good question to ponder? What Cardinal athletes are on your list?_ Headshaker of the week. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes….I understand. It is all about expanding the fan base._ But NHL hockey teams in Phoenix, Tampa Bay, and Florida? Come on._ Ice hockey in the Arizona desert?_ It’s a headshaker._
