Pierce County residents will not be getting called upon to do their civic duty in the special election for District 7 this upcoming May 12. The upcoming special election is being held to replace Sean Duffy in the U.S. House of Representatives, after Duffy resigned this past year. The former prosecutor from Ashland County, Wisconsin cited family reasons as contributing to his decision to resign last September—but that’s not why Pierce County residents get out of voting this May 12. Rather, the reason is one of manmade boundaries, as defined per congressional districts. Pierce County is in District 3 as far as the U.S. House of Representatives is concerned. The boundary line of District 7, which follows the northern boundary of Pierce County before taking a 90 degree turn north on County Highway PP at Hatchville northeast of Spring Valley, leaves out Pierce County in terms of voting on May 12. That doesn’t mean everyone gets passed over in the May 12 election though. Residents of River Falls north of Division Street which marks the southern boundary of St. Croix County are in District 7 for purposes of U.S. House representation, with the polling place for these city residents at the River Falls City Hall, located at 222 Lewis Street in River Falls. The choices for District 7 representative are currently between Tom Tiffany and Tricia Zunker, with absentee voting being encouraged. More information can be obtained by calling City Hall at 715-425-0900, or by visiting the city website at https://www.rfcity.org/ and finding “Elections” under the “Government” tab near the top of the page.
