St. Croix Valley Baseball regular season ends

The regular St. Croix Valley Baseball League season concluded this past weekend with the River Falls Fighting Fish winning their second consecutive league championship title with a 22-2 record on the season.

The Fighting Fish all but secured the top spot in the league over the weekend as they won all three of their final games. Friday night the Fighting Fish were on the road against the Cannon Falls Bears, beating them in a decisive 4-3 game. Saturday the Fighting Fish were at home for a league game against the Ellsworth Hubbers and won in a blowout 11-0 victory. Finally on Sunday, the Fighting Fish traveled a few miles north to face off against the Hudson River Rats, beating them 5-2 to wrap up their weekend winning streak.

The Prescott Pirates found themselves finishing the regular season at home for their final two games, winning both. The Pirates hosted the cellar-dwelling New Richmond Millers on Saturday night, beating them in a close 7-6 game and on Sunday afternoon, the Pirates faced off against the third place Spring Valley Hawks, defeating them 3-2. The Pirates finish the season with an overall record of 13-5.

The Spring Valley Hawks ended their season on a disappointing four-game losing streak that went into this final weekend. However, the Hawks still ended the season with an overall winning record of 12-10. This past weekend the Hawks hosted the Menomonie Eagles at home on Friday, losing the game at the close score of 3-2. They then went into Prescott on Sunday to face the Pirates only to lose by the same exact score that afternoon.

The Plum City Blues have ended the season with an even .500 record in division play at 7-7 and finished the season 8-9 overall. The Blues had an impressive month of July ending with a 4-2 record in the month that brought them to their .500 record to end the season. This final weekend, the Blues played the Menomonie Eagles on Saturday night on the road, beating them 7-5 and went to Elmwood on Sunday for UFO Days to beat the Expos 7-3.

The Bay City Bombers finished the season with a 7-11 record as they played their final two games against the Red Wing Aces and Osceola Braves last weekend. The Bombers played the Aces in Red Wing as the Aces hosted their fan appreciation night on Friday. The Aces shut out the Bombers in their 8-0 loss across the river. The Bombers played their final game of the year against the Braves and lost to them 8-2.

The Elmwood Expos ended their season with an overall record of 6-11, losing both of their final two games last weekend. The Expos hosted the Hudson River Rats on Saturday night and lost in an 18-3 blowout. The Expos then hosted their neighbors, the Plum City Blues on Sunday afternoon, losing that one 7-3.

The Ellsworth Hubbers had one final game last weekend against the River Falls Fighting Fish at First National Bank of River Falls Field on Saturday night. The 11- 0 loss for the Hubbers brought their final record on the season to 4-13.

Playoff schedules and matchups have yet to be released for St. Croix Valley teams that have made it into the tournament.
