ELLSWORTH – Nurturing hearts, inspiring minds, and embracing faith—this is the mission that drives St. Francis School, a pillar of Catholic education in Ellsworth for over 77 years. With more than 1,500 alumni who have grown into strong community leaders and faithful servants, St. Francis has cultivated a legacy of academic excellence, spiritual formation, and personal growth.

This week, St. Francis School invites the community to come together once again in support of its mission at the 19th Annual St. Francis School Gala, themed “Turn Back Time!” This ‘80s-inspired celebration isn’t just a throwback party—it’s a vital fundraiser that helps bridge the gap between tuition revenue and the true cost of educating each student.

The excitement kicks off online on Tuesday, April 8, with a week of video messages and chances to participate in the silent auction, classroom project bidding, and fund-a-need campaign. Each day brings a new highlight, from student shout-outs and alumni messages to reflections from Principal Mark Matzek and Father David Olson.

The week culminates with an in-person celebration on Saturday, April 12 at the St. Francis Parish Hall. Guests will bust out the neon, leg warmers and Aqua Net for a rad evening filled with raffles, games, dinner catered by Ready Randy’s, a dessert auction, live auction, and a moving pledge drive. The night will end on a high note with live music by Them Pesky Kids, bringing arena rock hits of the ‘80s to life.

Proceeds from this year’s gala aim to raise $140,000 to fund key improvements and sustain the future of St. Francis School. Projects include new playground equipment and mulch ($55,000), replacing the music room carpet ($5,000), installing four Smart Boards for grades 2-5 ($10,000), renewing the Studio 3:16 religion program ($700), and purchasing literacy ($1,700), science ($1,500), religion ($1,200), and handwriting ($1,000) curriculum for grades K-5. Additional funds will go toward operating expenses and staff salaries – ensuring that tuition remains accessible while retaining dedicated educators who make St. Francis School such a special place.

While tuition is $3,500 for one student, the true cost to educate each student is $9,000. The difference has always been made possible through generous support from St. Francis Parish and the broader community. Since the gala’s inception, over $819,000 has been raised—an incredible testament to the power of a united community.

Whether you’re a longtime supporter, proud alumni, or community member curious to learn more, we invite you to join us. Your presence, prayers, and generosity help continue the vision of “Making Jesus Famous” in the lives of our students.
