The Stan Barr Relays in New Richmond are one of the most intriguing track and field events in the area annually. From races that teams only run once a year to team scores in field events added up from the individual totals, there is something for everyone.
“The kids get really excited about this meet just because it does look different, and it kind of gives a whole new meaning to team,” Prescott Coach Emily Calabrese said. “I think that just makes it extra rewarding for everybody.”
Prescott’s Kyra Dix was the fifth place finisher in the mile, the 4x100 thrower’s relay (Jeremy Mabry, Eyan Miller, Landon Johnson and Toland Macejkovic) took third, the boys 4x200 (Andrew Lesso, Andrew Russell, Ashton Marshall and Wyatt Budworth) took fourth, the boys 4x400 (Marshall, Budworth, Jaylen Fleming and Russell) took fourth, Miller was runner-up in shot put, Makaria Haas was fourth in shot put and second in the discus. Miller was also sixth in the high jump and Scarlett Butler was sixth in the triple jump. The mile times go into a team mile that Prescott runs once a year, and Dix, Addy Allsop, Lily Vesperman and Amber Van Loon shattered the school record by about 40 seconds. Haas’s discus toss also destroyed her personal school record by about 10 feet on a 132-foot toss.
Calabrese said the girls sprinters are doing better at this point in the year than they were at the conclusion of last year. The boys sprinters have dealt with some health issues, but when they are ready to go, they have what it takes.
“We’ve had some health stuff that we’ve dealt with this year. It just seems like we can’t get them all healthy at once, but I really think we’re on the path for that,” Calabrese said.
River Falls senior Olive Halvorson took third in the mile, the boys 4x100 relay (Joseph Tarasewicz, Mason Novak, Devon Fox and Charlie Burke) took fourth, the 4x200 (Jacob Hutchins, Tarasewicz, Novak and Burke) took third, the girls 4x800 (Afton Gillis, Berkeley Petta, Halvorson and Annemarie Csiacsek) took third, the boys sprint medley (Hutchins, Burke, Noah Metro and Owen Koepke) took third, the girls sprint medley (Isabelle Russell, Willa Barry, Mackenzie Schmidt and Halvorson) took fourth, the 4x110 shuttle hurdles (Nathan Johncox, Nolan Russell, Jackson Magee and Fox) took fourth, the boys 4x160 shuttle hurdles (Johncox, Nolan Russell, Magee and Brady Larsen) took fourth, the girls 4x160 shuttle hurdles (Rory Canaday, Astrid Reiff, Bailee Bishop and Pearl Chaplinski) took fifth, Abigail Treichel won the high jump, Hutchins took second in the high jump, Burke took fifth in the high jump, Blake Schneider won the boys pole vault, Kayla Hoeft won the girls pole vault and Metro took third in the triple jump.
Ellsworth’s top finish was Chace Kressin’s third place discus score. Other standouts were Mackenzie Hince and Adolfo Mendez’s sixth-place mile finishes, a fifth-place finish in the boys 4x800 (Ben Baker, Jacob Michels, Mendez and Kyle VanWatermuelen) and Libby Groh’s sixth place high jump.
