Stanley Albert Schraufnagel was born on Nov. 22, 1954, and died very suddenly and unexpectedly on May 12, 2026, at Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa, Ariz. Stan was raised in Mayville, Wis. He was the proud father of Corrine Schraufnagel (Charles Jesberg) and Daniel Schraufnagel, who were his greatest life achievement. He is survived by his children and loving wife of 39 years, Mary-Alice Muraski.

Stan was educated in Mayville, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and Iowa State University. For more than 30 years, he was a professor in the Agricultural Economics Department at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where he had many outstanding students, exceptional colleagues, and good friends. Stan was an outstanding teacher, an exceptional mentor and advisor, and an even better person.

Stan and Mary-Alice had a grand retirement, especially enjoying winter wanders through Florida, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Eventually they settled in Mesa, Ariz. at Palm Gardens. There they made many new friends, cultivated new talents and interests, and served the community whenever possible.

Per his wishes, his useable tissues and organs were given to sustain others’ lives and the remains of his physical body will be naturally composted. Memorials can be made to the Muraski-Schraufnagel Scholarship at UW-River Falls, St. Bridget Catholic Church in Mesa, Ariz., or a charity of your choice. A celebration of Stan’s life will be held at St Bridget Catholic Church River Falls, Wis. on July 31, 2026 starting at 1 p.m. with stories from family and friends at 3 p.m.
