Statutes, by $500,000 per year, for five years beginning with the 2021-2022 school year and ending with the 2025-2016 school year, for non-recurring purposes consisting of operational and maintenance expenses?

A ‘yes’ vote will increase the mill rate by $0.07 per $1000 of property assessed, meaning that a home appraising at $250,000 in 2021 would see its tax bill increase by $17.50, with each year in the five-year referendum authorization seeing an additional marginal rate increase, with the same property owner projected to pay an extra $60 in taxes toward funding Plum City Schools education. The extra funds raised will be used to pay for electric and heat bills, transportation, and payment of hard-working staff. Other uses will include providing adequate counseling for students, maintaining current curriculum standards and building Fund 46 to help prevent future referenda on capital projects.

Per State Statute 121.91(3)(c), a binding referendum such as that now facing Plum City must be approved by the majority of those voting on the question when it appears on the ballot November 3. If approved by local voters, the district’s revenue limit is increased by the amount stated, or in Plum City’s case $500,000 per year for five years, for a total sum of $2.5 million. Surpassing the revenue limit without voter approval results in a deduction of like amount from the next district’s budget in state aid, or the ordering of lower taxes in line with the amount that revenue has exceeded the state cap. A prior authorization by the voters to fund Plum City education at 100 percent is set to expire soon, which is why the district needs to hear from Plum City School District residents on November 3, be it a ‘yay’ or ‘nay.’ Before the vote though, there will be an informational meeting this October 5th at 7:00 p.m. with public attendance made possible through virtual means. More information on how to attend is available on the district website at www.plumcity.k12.wi.us through a link with “your Vote Counts” at the bottom of the page (only the “your” might be visible on the website), or on Facebook by searching @PCSD Blue Devils. For those who may not have access to internet, the number to dial for meeting access is (402) 356-1195, followed with PIN 697877719. See you October 5th at 7:00 p.m.!
