Staying Put jumps into a joyful June!

Staying Put, Inc. (S312 McKay Ave. PO Box 193, Spring Valley) offers an array of non-medical volunteer services to help seniors and adults with disabilities maintain their independence in Spring Valley and Elmwood. They also offer people the chance to volunteer in the rural tradition of “neighbors helping neighbors.” These services are offered at no charge, but donations are graciously accepted.

Staying Put has new office hours: Closed Mondays except for special events; 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Call 715-778-5800 for a complete listing of services.

Transportation: Staying Put provides local and non-local transportation (with mileage reimbursement) for groceries, banking, pharmacy, hair and medical appointments. Call 715-778-5800. Drivers needed! Mileage reimbursements available.

Meals on Wheels/Spring Valley and Elmwood: For info on home-delivered meals, call ADRC of Pierce County at 715-273-6780/toll free 877-273-0804. Can you deliver meals? Call 715-778-5800. Elmwood drivers needed now!

Coffee Klatch: 10-11 a.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Staying Put office (occasional cancellation). Enjoy a visit over fresh coffee or tea, donated treats. All clients and volunteers are welcome to drop in! All events begin at 10 a.m.

  • June 6 – Donut Day
  • June 11 – Birthday celebration + baked goods
  • June 13 – Fun Fact Friday

Music at SV Health Care Campus: 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 3 at SV Health & Rehab (S830 Westland Drive).

Coffee & Conversation: A social get-together for older adults to share memories and stories, scheduled 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5 at Elmwood History Center (110 S. Main St.)

Farmers Market Vouchers, 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10 at Staying Put Office. The ADRC will hand out $25 farmers market vouchers. Must be 60 years or older, a Pierce County resident, and meet income requirements (single resident under $2,413 per month).

SV Memory Café: Every second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. This is a social get-together for older adults held 10-11:30 a.m. June 10 and June 24 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, S520 Church Ave., SV. Come share your memories with a friend or companion. Have fun and share stories, enjoy coffee, tea and treats, all are welcome. For info or a ride, call Staying Put at 715-778-5800.

Strong Bodies fitness sessions: Co-sponsored by Pierce County ADRC. Classes are held 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the SV Village Hall. Call to register at 715-778-5800.

Valley Villas Crooners, 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 10 at Valley Villas (S820 Westland Drive, SV). Featuring a vocal performance by the Valley Villas Crooners assisted living residents and instrumental accompaniment by Norm Solberg, Jeff Pajac and Kathy Nyeggen. Call if you need a ride to/from the event.

Monthly Birthday Party, 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11 at Staying Put Office. Volunteers and clients with April birthdays, stop in for treats, games and prizes!

Foot care clinic: Licensed nurse Rochelle Boos will trim toenails and reduce calluses and corns from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays, June 12 and June 28 at the Staying Put Office. Call for an appointment and cost information: 715-778-5800.

Our Backyard Birding Walk, 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18. Lifelong birder Cathy Olyphant will lead a bird-watching walk for all ages at the Eau Galle Recreation Area (less than a mile). Bring good walking shoes, binoculars and a picnic lunch. Meet at the Staying Put office for a ride to the event. Call 715-778-5800 if you need a ride to/from the event.

10th Anniversary Block Party, 2-6 p.m. Saturday, June 28, South Third Street (next to SV Community Center). Celebrate 10 years of Staying Put with a SV Block Party! Music, games, burgers by SV Lions Club, and drinks by Half Fast Brewing Company.

Animal Companionship: ATD certified therapy dog Abby will come visit. Call 715-778-5800 to request a visit.

Care Baskets: Assembled and donated by a Staying Put volunteer, delivered to members experiencing loss, illness, loneliness. Please call the office if you have a tip: 715-778-5800.

Tech Workshop: For personal help on your electronic device from a youth volunteer, call 715-778-5800.

C.R.A.F.T. (Creative Relaxation and Friend Time): Learn to knit or crochet from Kendall with our supplies or bring your own work in progress. All crafts are welcome; stop in whenever you like from 2-4 p.m. June 13 at the Staying Put Office.
