Staying Put plans busy August

Staying Put, Inc. (S312 McKay Ave. PO Box 193, Spring Valley) offers an array of non-medical volunteer services to help seniors and adults with disabilities maintain their independence in Spring Valley and Elmwood. They also offer people the chance to volunteer in the rural tradition of “neighbors helping neighbors.” These services are offered at no charge, but donations are graciously accepted.

Staying Put has new office hours: Closed Mondays except for special events; 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Call 715-778-5800 for a complete listing of services.

Transportation: Staying Put provides local and non-local transportation (with mileage reimbursement) for groceries, banking, pharmacy, hair and medical appointments. Call 715-778-5800. Drivers needed! Mileage reimbursements available.

Meals on Wheels/Spring Valley and Elmwood: For info on home-delivered meals, call ADRC of Pierce County at 715-273-6780/toll free 877-273-0804. Can you deliver meals? Call 715-778-5800. Elmwood drivers needed now!

Coffee Klatch: 10-11 a.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Staying Put office (occasional cancellation). Enjoy a visit over fresh coffee or tea, donated treats. All clients and volunteers are welcome to drop in!

Memory Café: Every second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. This is a social get-together for older adults held 10-11:30 a.m. Aug. 13 and Aug. 27 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, S520 Church Ave., SV. Come share your memories with a friend or companion. Have fun and share stories, enjoy coffee, tea and treats, all are welcome. For info or a ride, call Staying Put at 715-778-5800.

Strong Bodies fitness sessions: Co-sponsored by Pierce County ADRC. Classes are held 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the SV Village Hall. Call to register at 715-778-5800.

Foot care clinic: Licensed nurse Rochelle Boos will trim toenails and reduce calluses and corns from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 6 and Aug. 22 at the Staying Put Office. Call for an appointment and cost information: 715-778-5800.

Coffee & Conversation: 1:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at Elmwood History Center (110 S. Main St.)

Bingo, 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 at the Staying Put Office.

Monday Meal, 11 a.m., Staying Put Office. Social get together for the community; food provided.

Craft Day, 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14 at the Staying Put Office.

Movie Night, 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 at Sheryl Sutherland’s house (N8036 County Road BB, Spring Valley). We will show either “It’s a Mad Mad Mad World,” “ Honey I Shrunk the Kids,” or Driving Miss Daisy.” Popcorn and beverages will be served.

Game Day, 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 at the Spring Valley Community Center. Games and socializing. Call 715-778-5800 to register.

Monthly Birthday Party, 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, Staying Put Office. Volunteers and clients with July birthdays, stop in for treats, games and prizes!

Tales of Quails, 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 26 at the Staying Put office. Gina Klatt (accompanied by Roach the quail) will give a talk about her adventures raising quails. Guests will get a chance to sample cooked quail eggs.

Animal Companionship: ATD certified therapy dog Abby will come visit. Call 715-778-5800 to request a visit.

Care Baskets: Assembled and donated by a Staying Put volunteer, delivered to members experiencing loss, illness, loneliness. Please call the office if you have a tip: 715-778-5800.

Tech Workshop: For personal help on your electronic device from a youth volunteer, call 715-778-5800.

Music at SV Health Care Campus: The public is invited to live music from 12:45-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Spring Valley Health & Rehab (S830 Westland Drive, Spring Valley).

Volunteer Meet Up: Join the Staying Put staff and fellow volunteers for supper and socializing 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at The Wandering Ewe (S119 McKay Ave. S.)

AARP Home Fit Training: A new pilot program to make easy home modifications for seniors. Interested volunteers should attend this training session at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 to learn to recognize home safety issues and implement simple solutions that make seniors’ homes more aging-friendly. RSVP to Staying Put; food will be provided.
