‘Steamboats, Towboats, and River History Exhibition’ opens May 3

PRESCOTT – "Steamboats, Towboats, and River History Exhibition" will open the weekend of May 3, 2025 at The Prescott History Center. It will bring Prescott’s river history to life through river maps, an array of river pictures, photos of towboats and steamboats, artifacts, speakers and an exhibition booklet with more steamboat, towboat, and river history and information.
Join us for the opening of this special exhibition the weekend of May 3 and May 4. Weekend hours throughout the year are every Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with additional hours for opening week of the Exhibition; you can also visit 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 9.  
We are also excited to offer a special speaker series that will accompany this new exhibition on Steamboats, Towboats, and River History. 

  • John Anfinson will speak at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 4 about “Views on the Upper Mississippi River: The Photographs of Henry Peter Boss.”
  • Lee Hendrix will present at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6 on “Peep Light: Stories of a Mississippi River Boat Captain.”
  • Robert Taunt will present at 7 p.m. Friday, July 11 on “Recollections of a Steamboat Pilot - George Byron Merrick.”
  • Kelly Johnson and Jean Halverson will talk about their book “Grandma and Grandpa’s Great Loop Adventure” at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12.
  • Dallas Eggers will talk at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 about “Steamboats Comin', A History of Steamboats.”

All events are taking place at The Prescott History Center (235 Broad St. in Prescott, next to the clock tower and bridge).
