Stephen (Steve) Allen Mountain, 41 years old, of River Falls, Wis. passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025 due to injuries sustained in a single car accident near Prescott, Wis. He was accompanied by his beloved dog, Remy.
Steve was born in River Falls on May 6, 1983, the youngest of four children, to Dave and Rita Mountain. Steve graduated from River Falls High School in 2001. He then attended UW-Stout and graduated with a degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management. After interning for two summers at Beach Point Country Club in New York, he landed his first job at Rockville Links Country Club on Long Island in NY. Steve also worked at City Lobster and Eataly in New York City. He made many great friends while living and working in New York and even lived for a while with his childhood best friend/neighbor, Scott Tiedke, who had also headed to NYC to follow his dreams. Friends and family enjoyed visiting Steve while he lived in New York. He always loved showing them around and taking them to the best places to eat.
Steve moved back to River Falls in 2015. He worked for a short time at Oceanaire Seafood Room in Minneapolis.
While in high school, Steve worked as a line cook at Troy Burne Golf Course in Hudson, as well as at Applebee’s. This is where his love of cooking began. Over the years of living in New York and then later back home, Steve learned to appreciate fine dining and pairing food with wines. He loved cooking with his Aunt Sue, his sister Tricia, friends from college and making great meals for his dad. Often people back home thought he was a chef in New York, but no, he just enjoyed cooking with others and enjoying good food.
Steve was a huge Chicago Cubs fan and of course grew up loving the Green Bay Packers in the Mountain house. He loved attending games with his dad, brothers and friends both in New York, Chicago and at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. He also loved going to concerts, comedy shows and Midwest All-Star Wrestling events with his brothers and friends. He and his dad also loved going to movies and watching them together at home.
Steve was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend. He loved fun, he loved family gatherings and playing games. After his mom Rita passed away in 2017, he was very thoughtful and sent his “sissy” Tricia flowers on Mother’s Day and on her birthday. He became his dad Dave’s best friend. Together they decided they wanted to get a dog, to fill the void of Rita being gone. They fostered a few dogs, but Remy became a loved and cherished family member in 2017 and went with Steve wherever he went.
Steve will be dearly missed by his dad, Dave of River Falls; sister Tricia (Joe) Dickison and their kids, (Kaleigh, Lindsey and Josh) of Rochester, Minn.; brother Jeff (Tanya) Mountain and their kids (Hannah and Tyler) of New Richmond, Wis.; brother Matt Mountain of River Falls. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who enjoyed visiting with him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rita (Langer) Mountain, his grandparents: Lloyd Langer, Mary (Ortwerth) Langer/Brunner, Cal Brunner, Percy and Helen Mountain, his uncle Donald Mountain, his aunt Annette Norlander and good friend Scott Tiedke.
Steve’s wonderful smile, hugs and big heart will be missed by many.
