Storms leave Pierce County without vaccine doses

Pierce County Public Health is without ordered vaccine doses this week because of the winter weather that crippled the southern United States.

A message posted to the Pierce County Public Health Facebook page Sunday states, “Due to extreme weather in the southern US, shipments of Moderna vaccine from the federal distribution centers have been delayed. We do not have vaccines for this week currently, nor do we know when our shipment will arrive. We will not be able to take appointments for first doses online or via phone at this time. Please check our scheduling website later in the week. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

As of Sunday, 7,087 Pierce County residents have received the COVID-19 vaccine.

In the county, the current COVID-19 risk level was reduced from “Tipping Point” to “Accelerated Spread.” There are just 33 new cases reported from Feb. 13 – 20 and 55 the week prior. It’s been tracking downward in the last month from 190 cases reported the week ending Jan. 9. The county high point was 449 a week in November.
