SV picks up road dub over EPC

ELMWOOD — Spring Valley gave up nothing easy against Elmwood/Plum City, forcing 28 turnovers and allowing just a 20% shooting percentage in a 52-34 road win Feb. 10.

The Cardinals did not have their best shooting night either, but capitalized on fast break opportunities to get the job done. Rylie Fritz led the way with 12, followed by Kate Cipriano with 10, Katie Matthys with nine and Amelia Brunner with nine. For EPC, junior Aurora Sampair led the way with 10 on the night. Fritz especially had a solid game, showing quick bursts of speed to push the ball in transition and create easy looks.

EPC did not have its best night, with compounding mistakes costing a shot to even the season series with the Cardinals.

“We kind of let it get away from us a little bit. It’s obviously a close opponent, rival, whatever you want to call it,” EPC Head Coach Adrian Hook said. “Spring Valley is a pretty motivated team… They’ve got some girls, and obviously they might be missing Jada, but they’ve still got some girls that can do great things.”

Later in the week, EPC lost a close one 42-34 against Mondovi. While the end result was not what the Wolves wanted, the defense was as strong as ever. The No. 13 seed in the postseason, EPC, will take on No. 4 Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on the road Feb. 24.

“On Friday, when we played against Mondovi, our defensive intensity was off the charts. One of our better performances all year, and it was close pretty much down to the wire,” Hook said. “If we can build off of that and do the same thing [moving forward] that would be great.”

Spring Valley is an even 11-11 on the season with a 7-7 conference record. EPC comes in at 7-15 overall and 2-12 in conference play.

Spring Valley landed a No. 8 seed in the postseason and will host No. 9 Augusta in the opening round Feb. 24. The Beavers are 8-14 this season.
