hallowed area, seldom does the area ever get completely organized.

I decided to take a tactical approach to gathering my turkey gear: I started with my hunting backpack. Turkey calls were the first thing to hit the bottom of the pack. After untangling the slate calls from the elk calls, I was on my way. I’m not sure how my crow calls and gobble calls got intertwined with the ducks calls and buck grunt tubes but they did. This goes to prove an earlier point that storing and organizing are separate disciplines.

Hunting jackets and pants are pretty easy to deal with in that they all get stored in the same area. The only organizing needed is to rotate the lighter gear from the bottom to the top. In other words, it’s time to move the warm weather heavy, duty stuff out of the way and cross all fingers and toes that we don’t need that stuff again until the fall during the deer season.

A range finder was the next piece of equipment that I came across and my binoculars were right next to them. A hunting knife and some shotgun shells pretty much rounded out the hunting pack. Decoys and a hunting blind are stashed together in the garage so I’m pretty much ready to go.

Now I know this hunting prep work isn’t too exciting on paper but on a dreary sloppy spring day, it’s a welcome challenge. What will I do tomorrow if the weather hasn’t improved? That’s easy: I’ll get my fishing gear gathered up and ready to go. And do you want to know what else? It beats the heck out of having to do yard work.
