OUTDOOR

BY DAVE BECK was unexpected and the water explosion heard was the unofficial start of an unchoreographed fire drill. I was the net man so I reeled in my line as quickly as possible in order to my gear out of the way. I hurried to grab the dipnet and to get into the ready position. I did one more thing that I have never, ever, done before when getting ready to dip a fish in the dark of the night: I turned on my GoPro camera that was mounted on the back of the boat.

So why did I tell you that story? Well, it’s a good story. It was exciting to land that 47-inch fish. The video, while a little grainy, was actually pretty good and it captured a lot of the things that I tried to describe above. That video is downloaded on the Outdoor Tales and Trails with Dave Beck Facebook page where you can watch the entire thing. The Facebook page allows me to introduce sound and video to this column. Take a minute to check it and let me know what you think. Thank you, and keep reading and watching.
