The Cove Guest House to open in May

Langer is on a mission to revitalize Prescott

PRESCOTT – Megan Langer, the owner and designer of The Port of Prescott Hotel in Prescott, is opening a house rental in Prescott called The Cove Guest House coming this May. Langer finds distressed properties and fixes them up. When she saw the 150-year-old building that is now The Cove up for sale, she took “24 hours to think on it.”

Langer emphasizes that, “There are struggles in the rental industry, so I had to ask myself ‘Can we make this work?’ The Cove became a necessity when The Port started booking out.”

After some thought, Langer knew there was a need for a bigger space in Prescott. The construction for The Cove, located at 154 Broad St., started Feb. 1. The Cove Guest House will be a whole house rental designed for large groups. It will have eight bedrooms, four kitchens, six bathrooms and accommodates 24 guests. The rental features include a private 1,300 square foot rooftop patio that overlooks downtown Prescott, an outdoor balcony and deck, outdoor living and dining room, and a clubhouse with a pool table and lounge. It is dog friendly, as well.

When they began remodeling the property, they hit some snags. It turned out to be more of a project than Langer thought.

“We didn’t know some of the faults that previous constructors/homeowners had done,” Langer said. “We were going to save the sheetrock, but we found structural damage, so we had to rip all the sheetrock out, all the insulation out, all the original plumbing and all the original electric had to be ripped out.”

It’s always interesting to see what artifacts might have been left behind when remodeling an old building. Before Langer purchased the property, it was a four-plex. The one thing they found of interest turned out to be a business card from a painter from the 80s or 90s.

Now that the building had undergone a complete facelift, within The Cove there will be four private suites: Sapphire Suite, Emerald Suite, Diamond Suite, and Ruby Suite. Two of the suites, the Emerald Suite and the Diamond Suite are designed for bridal parties. The Emerald Suite is for groomsmen, and the Diamond Suite has a custom hair and make-up vanity area.

Langer suggests, “If you’re getting married, you’ll want to check out the bride (Diamond) and groom’s (Emerald) Suite.”

Langer says she wants her guests to be excited about what room to choose.

“It’s not like a traditional hotel, where every room is the same. At The Cove (and The Port) every bedroom has a different color, a different style to it,” she said.

Langer hopes by doing so it “provides her guests with an experience.”

Langer says that Prescott is becoming a “trendy, up-and-coming town.” She believes the onset of the pandemic may have spurred that.

“When Covid shut everything down, people from Minnesota discovered us,” Langer said. “Prescott is a good day trip; there’s amazing food, scenic views and fun shops to explore.”

And now rentals, like her own, allow people to stay so that they can enjoy hand-crafted cocktails, too.

Stay tuned for a catered open house/grand opening event May 20-21. Also in the works is a new website, which is under construction. You can follow remodeling progress on Facebook.

Langer has also purchased the former River Heights Motel on Highway 10. Remodeling is also underway there.
