It’s all been preparation for this.

Daily training in the off-season. Open mat nights. Hours and hours in the weight room. And then the wrestling season officially got underway. It’s a long grind from November with weekly dual meets and Saturday tournaments.

It’s time to put that work to its test. WIAA Regionals are Saturday.

In Division 1, River Falls will wrestle in the Hudson Regional Saturday, battling against many familiar Big Rivers Conference foes. Teams in the Hudson tournament with the Wildcats include Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire Memorial, Eau Claire North, Hudson, Menomonie, New Richmond and Regis/Altoona.

It’s a tough test, with Menomonie ranked fifth in the state and Hudson ninth.

The top four individual finishers will advance to the WIAA Sectional Meet Saturday, Feb. 17 in Menomonie. The top team will qualify for the WIAA Team Sectional Meet on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

In Division 2, both Ellsworth and Prescott will wrestle Saturday in the Saint Croix Falls Regional, competing against Amery, Baldwin-Woodville, Chetek-Weyerhauser/Prairie Farm, Hayward/Northwood, Luck/Frederic/Grantsburg/Siren, Northwester, Osceola, Rice Lake, Saint Croix Centrals, Saint Croix Falls, Somerset and Spooner/Webster.

The top four finishers will advance to the WIAA Sectional Meet in Tomahawk on Feb. 17.

The top team advances the Team Sectional in Somerset on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

In Division 3, Spring Valley/Elmwood wrestles Saturday in the WIAA Regional Meet in Auburndale, along with Athens, Boyceville, Cadott, Clear Lake, Cornell/Gilman/Lake Holcombe, Durand-Arkansaw, Edgar, Glenwood City, Marathon, Stratford and Thorp/Owen-Withee.

The top four wrestlers advance to compete in the WIAA Sectional Meet in Edgar Feb. 17. The top team will take part in the team sectional in Cadott on Feb. 13.
