OAK GROVE TOWNSHIP – A multiple vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in the town of Oak Grove resulted in a vehicle fire and several serious injuries.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at 4:12 p.m. at U.S. Highway 10 and County Road QQ.
James Schwan, 59, Houlton, was traveling eastbound on Highway 10 on a 2015 Honda motorcycle; he stopped in traffic, waiting for a car in front of him to turn left onto County Road QQ.
Abenezer Bekele, 22, Farmington, Minn., was behind Schwan in a 2003 BMW 325, also eastbound on Highway 10. He didn’t see the other two vehicles stopped and tried to avoid striking them. His BMW sideswiped the motorcycle and crossed the center line into the westbound lane, where a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 struck it. Trista Duffy, 35, Prescott, was driving the Dodge Ram, which contained a 5-year-old passenger.
After the Dodge Ram struck the BMW, the BMW overturned in the north ditch and started on fire. Prescott Fire Department extricated Bekele from the vehicle and Life Link III Helicopter transported him to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with undisclosed injuries.
Allina Health Ambulance Service transported Duffy and the 5-year-old minor from the scene to Regions Hospital also, with undetermined injuries. Schwan was uninjured in the crash.
Prescott Fire Department, Prescott Police Department, Allina Health and Life Link III Helicopter assisted PCSO at the scene
