TOWN OF MARTELL – Two people were able to escape a house fire Saturday in the town of Martell.

Ellsworth Fire was dispatched at 4:19 p.m. Oct. 10 to W6915 County Road N. Several 911 callers reported flames and smoke visible from the residence.

Fire crews arrived to find a two-story home with heavy smoke and fire visible. Crews stretched hose lines and began extinguishing the fire from the exterior before moving inside and fully extinguishing it. A news release reports that two residents inside the home at the time were able to escape without injury.

Fire Chief Derek Featherstone said the home is owned by Scott and Sheryl Hirman. At the time of the fire, one owner was there along with one renter. It’s unknown if any pets were inside at the time.

Ellsworth Fire responded with two engines, two water tenders and one command vehicle. River Falls, Prescott and Elmwood fire departments provided mutual aid, along with Pierce County Sheriff’s Office and Ellsworth Area EMS.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
